Leather cracking - covered under warranty? (PICS) UPDATE

UPDATE: Went to the dealer last night for some other problems. The services manager said he can have it fixed under warranty, HOWEVER, he cannot make it fit (look tight) as it came out from the factory... whatever them means...
--------------------------------------------------------
OK, did a search, found some discussion about this but no definite answer.
I have the cracking only on the drivers seat - left bolster (the side that gets rubbed the most when exiting and entering the car).

Is this leather cracking covered by the warranty? Am I eligible for a new Drivers seat?

*** Edit: I found the 2004 online warranty booklet and could not find any mentioning of the leather components inside the car. *** Refer to page 5. in the booklet under the section titled "WHAT IS NOT COVERED"

I don't know for sure, but I would assume no. Since it is a "wear and tear" item.

i agree with the above post, although it's mildly ridiculous that your leather is cracking after only a year, and perhaps not even. been putting that bad boy under some heavy stress..............the seats are made for one, ya know

I would at least try running this past the dealer. It's crazy to see the kind of wear you have on your seat (and only in one specific section) after this short of a period. The worst they can do is say no.

Good luck.

yeah, it's worth a try. have you ever cleaned/protect it? leather needs conditioning from time to time. it's just too soon to have cracking issues. it sucks too if the weather is always f.ucked.

You guys have to condition the leather. I condition once every 3 months and my leather looks brand new (got the car in May). Lexol is a good brand and so is Zaino.

I agree, that's not cracking (yet) that's wrinkling because of the particular abuse it sees. You need to condition more.

They probably wont replace it. It IS normal wear and tear. To prevent it, you should have been conditioning the parts of the leather that get rubbed on alot

I've been conditioning it every 3 months with Z-9 and Z-10 from Zaino. So what youre seeing here is WITH conditioning.... I can only imagine how $hity it would look without the conditioning....

No offense but your car is only half year old.... wait till you have it for 15 months....

I see this leather quality as nothing but low level crap... A $40K car should have better quality leather.

^ agree. a $40k car should have quality leather. but, the G aint no $40k car. BMW uses leatherette due to the normal wear and tear real leather produces.

Wow. Thats pretty crappy then. I've seen used Gs with better leather and $20k so that is unusual.

My 04' 6MT with Prem and NAV + tax = out the door.... $39,975... I would consider that as a $40K car....
