Since G35C doesn't come with the stock Brembo brake anymore, can someone tells me how good the stock brake is?

And how much normally I can upgrade an aftermarket Brembo brake?

i'm curious as to this as well. wish there was a performed review of the car. the infiniti brochure states:

"Halting the 2005 G35 are bigger brakes. The benefits are greater stopping power and increased durability."

not sure how this directly relates to the earlier brembo's on cars. some input would be great.

 

I think the 2005 6mt brakes are actually smaller in diameter than the 2004 brembo's, but i could be wrong

 

My car is still a week away so i can't tell you form personal experience how the new 05 brakes are. Most have said that they are much better than the 03/04 AT brakes.

it will cost you between $4000 and $5000 for a good aftermarket BBK for both front and rear. If you just do the front it would be cheaper.

You can sometimes find the 03/04 OEM brembos on ebay for ~$2000 but those are rare. You can buy the OEM brembos new aftermarket for $4500 but most will tell you that there are much better BBKs for that price.

To my knowledge the only Brembo BBK (front and rear) available for the G35 is the OEM kit. There is however a front only brembo kit available for the G35 that is not OEM you can find at most websites.

The stoptech kit has gotten a lot of good reviews but i have not tried it personally.

I too plan to upgrade to a BBK, but i will probably wait a year or two... might as well get something out of the stock brakes before replacing them.

 

i'm sure the stock brakes must do great justice if the horsepower has been increased. heaven forbid, you have a fast car with no stopping power.

Rotora/Endless/Alcon are the only brake upgrades i'd do.

 

I dont ever recall hearing that the Brembos stopped any better than the reguler brakes anyway. I think they just look pretty.

 

You must have not tried out both the Brembos and the regular brakes to experience the difference.

 

I haven't had much seat time in an 05 so far, but from what time I have spent in one, the brakes feel very good. They're now 12.6" front rotors and 12.1" rear rotors and I believe the pad compound changed too.

I know the overall stopping distance could still vary quite a bit, but as far as pedal feel and modulation they were very nice. Got them hot (not track hot) and they still bit well.

I was reading on Autoweek.com and their review of the Brembos gave them one of the shortest stopping distances from 60 mph of any car they EVER tested!

"But more than just a pretty face, the G35 is impressive at both the track and on the street. The coupe hit 60 mph in less than six seconds. The Brembo brakes, standard on the coupes that feature the six-speed manual transmission, stopped the G35 from 60 mph in 115 feet. That puts the coupe in the same category as the BMW Z4 (AW, June 23), which stopped in 110 feet, and the Porsche 911 (AW, Oct. 23, 2000), which held the previous AutoFile stopping record at 111 feet. "

I'd say that's better than most stock set-ups!

 

That's what I'm worry about...

 

Gentlemen:
You have to understand that braking effectiveness is limited by tire traction much more than rotor clamping force. By increasing our stock brakes with a big brake kit you may not see much improvement in stopping distance, but will have decreased brake fade.

Our G35 brakes were tested from 70mph to 0 & took 164ft (by Car&Driver)
Honda S2000 took 163 ft
M3 & Boxster 161ft
Lotus Elise 160ft

It is my humble opinion that we have more than adequate brakes. Only if you are going to track the G35 will you need a BBK.

 

Motor Trend got the '03/0'4 6MT to stop in 109 ft from 60 (MT, Jan '05). And I remember reading some place that the Sedan was right behind at 111 ft from 60. Damn, impressive! I'd imagine the '05 brakes could manage the same stopping distances or come very close.

 

Well... as when motorweek tested the sedan 6mt the recorded a 60 to 0 distance of 111ft. Better than the 350Z, and G coupe. Sounds like they are all pretty similar.

 

i saw the new car&driver had the new 05 m45 with same brakes as 05 g35 it stop 60 to o at 114 feets but that is the m45(3900 lbs)and the G had 3512 lbs, so will be about same w/brembo (may be less feel as brembo).

 

I've had my 6mt for a few days now and haven't had many controlled hard braking opportunities, most of mine have been having someone change lanes into me two miles away from the dealership and then someone pull out in front of me. (Laser Red, hard to see) Both times it stopped fine, since then I've taken the car to my favorite 14% downhill grade and bed the pads, I think this made a big improvement in the stopping power.

I am making the transition from a modified '96 200SX SE-R with Wilwood 4 piston brakes. I have to say the SE-R stops faster, but the car only ways about 2700 lbs so it's much lighter then the G.

Always remember with this excellent stopping power comes the mortals that don't have as good of brakes and rear end you. My SE-R was rear ended twice...

Would I want Brembo's on the new 6mt? of course I would, but I think like my Wilwoods they really shine on the track, in normal city driving I just don't get that many chances to play.
