car unstable on the highway

hi I have been having this issue since I bought the car not sure if this is the way it is or not but anyways.. when I hit the highway/freeway and I drive around 120-130km/h my car starts being unstable like when I change lanes the car starts to zig zag and after a short amount of time it stabilizes itself...

also when it zig zagz it doesn't go crazy like you would see in a movie more like slowly slowly driving itself in the opposite direction I want to go so if I change my lane to the right one it will go there but halfway through it will start going back to left by itself ?

could it be because of the tires or suspension ?

Is it the rear that sways ? fish tail motion ?
May be a blown shock or bad end links maybe even both .
What maintanence has been done to the car ?

Could be bad tires, worn or loose suspension parts (shocks bushings), or a bad alignment.

Only time mine scared me on the interstate was in rain with nearly bald rear tires, changed them out and no problems since.

Also, do you know if you have a model with rear active steer? That might feel weird, but I've never driven one so I couldn't say for sure.

Sounds like a blown shock, but that is something you should notice in a turn as well and not just on the freeway.

There are a few different reasons why your car would feel unstable, and it's probably a combination of things. I would start with your tires, since you can easily check that. Are they properly inflated? Are they worn down?

Next thing I would check would be your alignment, along with inspecting the shocks to see if they are blown. Another thing to remember is that even if your tires still have some tread or your shocks are not blown, some tires tramline worse than others (meaning they tend to follow grooves in the road).

If you choose to fix any of those items make sure you get your alignment redone!

What brand and size tires do you have on the rear? Are they new?

I'd begin with a 4 wheeled alignment. While there at it have them check your tires and suspension. A good shop won't do the alignment if you have worn suspension parts that need replacing!

Sounds like bad tires with little to no tread to me

The fact that its only happening at highway speeds means its probably an alignment issue like others are saying. Plus its probably the cheapest solution to test out.

Getting an alignment will likely solve your issues if those tires aren't too bad! Why would you think you'd need "Coilovers?" There's a possibility your shocks could be worn but you don't need coilovers! Do us a favor, before you make another post read what your posting....reading you stuff is like a flipin puzzle....Gary
