Dead Battery Concerns

Well, I have my wife taking care of my car while i'm deployed. As of today she said the battery has died. Is there any harm to it sitting for a couple weeks on a dead battery? I read all this stuff about having to get the ECU to relearn or the idle.

that happened to my car for not using it for 2 months. you will not have problem with the ecu unless the battery totally dies. my suggestion is have it jumpstart and at least start and let it run for 5 mins every other day or just leave it like that until you come back!

So the car can't live without power? It doesn't re-learn on its own?

My wife managed to get it jump started and drove it for a bit.

well the battery just have enough power to open up the doors and electronics, but not enough to crank it. l left my car sitting for 2 months and the battery was discharge.

After that i left it sitting for a couple of weeks but i'm starting it up every other day! I'm using my car now and have no problems with my battery.

There should be no harm done to the car by leaving it with a dead battery. However, if you let that battery sit dead for a long time, there's a pretty good chance that you'll have to replace it with a new battery when you get back. If you have your wife jump the car or use a battery charger to get it back up to charge, you can probably salvage the existing battery... depending on how old it is. Anytime you run a car battery down all the way, you're doing damage to it. Try to have the Mrs. start the car like once a week to keep it healthy, or have her buy you a trickle charger and hook it up to the car.

Sweet thanks. The battery is a couple years old. Innerstate brand. I am having her start it twice a week to keep it solid for a couple more weeks.

Agreed. So it won't have any effects on the ecu or other computers If it doesn't have any power?

not unless you remove the negative battery terminal or the battery fully dies, the ecu will not reset.

You just need to buy a new battery. Simple as that. My battery went out when the car was four years old, jumpstarted it with my Maxima, went straight to the auto parts store and dropped a C-note on a new one. If it's only the battery that's gone on your G be happy and replace it, problem solved.
