Valve Adjustment Due to Valve Tap
Valve Adjustment Due to Valve Tap
I am working on finding out what is tapping in my valves so far i pulled the valve covers and removed the whole front end also the timing chain cover. Now this is where i pause i kno the timing on a motor is really important and if u do it wrong it can blow i have watched a timing job be done before but never did it on my own. Can someone please give me tips and dos and donts on removing the cams so i can take them out and put them back in safely !!
Thanks !
Thanks !
Since its apart already assume you checked for oil consumption issues. Don't know the mileage or VQ platform but some had oil consumption issues and if ran low on oil too long or often may have caused premature wear.
Your header says "valve adjustment", check your valve lash or clearences before removing camshafts.
Assuming camshafts are not worn the choices to adjust clearence are to replace valve bucket/cam follower with aftermarket ones that can be shimmed (I.E. Supertech) or determine appropriate valve bucket needed and order from stealership.
Factory service manual provides all the info on checking clearences, range of available valve buckets, ETC.
Mark which side hubs and timing chains removed from.
