Frame Damage Likely with Stillen License Plate Adapter?

I'm considering going with the Stillen licence plate adapter that uses the spot for the tow hook. I've been searching around for this info, and haven't really seen anyone mention it much.

Everyone seems to be really really happy when they make the switch, but what worries me is that it will render my front bumper useless and increase the potential for frame damage in minor accidents. If I rear-end someone at a relatively low speed, am I more likely to damage the frame because of that adapter on front linked directly to it, effectively totaling my car? Or should it just snap off with any sort of stress?

Depends on how hard the impact is. It may slightly bend the crash bar or its mounting brackets. Might actually be cheaper to fix than having to replace the front bumper, provided the air bags don't go off.

Ahh, that's a good point. I didn't think about it being the actual crash bar. I suppose if I'm hitting anyone hard enough to deploy the airbags, it's going to be expensive anyway.

Coahman, have you received a violation or pulled over for not having a front license plate? If not, keep the license plate adapter as an option when/if you do. I won't post how many years I've driven in SoCal without a front plate or how many cars....that's bad luck!

It's supposed to be a requirement here in Utah, but I drove my last car for almost 4 years without one and was never bothered about it (police officers never even mentioned it when I was pulled over for other things).

I would just leave it off and put the fascia cap over the tow-hook hole, except that the previous owner of my G drilled holes in the bumper to mount a bulky license plate holder to the front. They're relatively small holes, but at this point I'd rather just put the adapter on for something cleaner looking than try and patch the holes and paint-match.

One of the cheapest mods I've done: https://g35driver.com/forums/body-in...es-needed.html

Its been over 2 years since I put it on and has yet to fall off.

That's a lot cheaper than $80, I'll have to give that a shot. Thanks for the tip, herrschaft
