Coupe Brake growl!

I just purchased an 03 coupe with 23K miles. The previous owner was a 60yr. old man and just had the brakes pads replaced under warranty at the Infiniti dealership.

1. Is it true that Infiniti has said they will replace the pads for free under warranty? If so up to how many miles? Is this a big time problem with G35's?

2. There seems to be a lot of noise coming from the rotors and brakes just when driving. Then when you apply the brakes the growling noise gets louder. What could be causing this?

3. Can a Nissan dealership do warranty work for an Infiniti car? The closest Infiniti dealership to me is 2.5hours away.

Thanks for you help

Jesse

Best advise would be to call the dealership and ask them....

Is this a 6mt or an Auto? If auto, there is a brake warranty until 36K I believe, the 6mt has no such warranty.

What tires are you running? The noise might well be tire droning and not the brakes at all? Worn down Pilot Sports are known for being loud!

It is an auto and it has some Cooper tires on them with about 2Kmiles.

Not familiar with Cooper tires, do a search, you should be able to find out if they are inherintetly loud?

You can check the outer pads by simply looking inside the wheels to see how much pad is left? You can also scrape your fingernail across the rotor to see if there are grooves, if so, that is not good, they should be prettly smooth.

Best bet is to take it to the dealer since you have a brake warranty, but I would bet your noise is from the tires?

if its too inconvenient to stop by the dealer, at the very least make sure you have a good amount of pad left in the calipers. also check the rotors.
if you just got the car, id suggest dropping by the dealership and have them do a maintenance job on it (unless they showed you receipts from service). Replace fluids, everything.. that way you're starting from a good 'baseline' with the car. If its not too inconvenient though, the least I would do is stop by and have them look at the brakes. You shouldn't be hearing anything too loud other than your typical squeaks.
