G35 coupe rattle noise coming from the front end? Help!
I have an 05 6mt coupe and it started making this rattle noise. It sounds like its coming from the front of the car. It goes away when accelerating but when i let off the gas it makes the noise. It goes away after about 10-20 minutes of driving and sometimes doesnt make a noise at all. What could it be? Anyone els experience similar problems?
Noises are a bitch to locate and the only way to find them is by getting your car on a lift and have a knowledgeable mechanic check everything out. We've all had noises, what's worse is when your wifes asks. "What's that noise?"

I had my oil changed less than 2k miles ago and its not a constant sound. It sounds like its coming from the engine bay buy it goes away sometimes than othermtimes it will makemthe noise
Could be an exhaust heat shield or some other loose exhaust component. Usually noises that happen when the car is cold and not when it's fully warmed up are likely to be related to exhaust components. Those parts expand a lot when they heat up, and sometimes this tightens up small gaps between parts and stops the rattling. Heat shields on catalytic converters are the number one cause of such noises in my experience. Climb under the car with it off when it's dead cold and try to tap on the exhaust in different areas with a rubber mallet and see if you can replicate the noise and isolate it to a certain area.

I have had a rattling noise pop up recently. Its definitely from the vibration of something. It only occurs at a certain rpm range under certain engine "strain"...around 2500rpm and slowly accelerating. If I take my foot off the gas it goes away. If I try to run the engine at the same rpm in neutral it does not occur. At first I noticed that a couple of my hood bolts were not tight, but that did not fix it. Another issue could be the plastic shroud that covers the bottom of the engine bay (that you need to take off for an oil filter change) There is a metal part to that plastic shroud that contacts the chassis. If not tightened, it can rattle.
I made sure that was nice and tight in those areas and it still rattles.
I checked exhaust/cat shields and they are fine
I have been looking for what else could cause it and the only other thing that has some give to it is the hood striker mechanism. I have to do some more experimentation, but as for now I cant figure it out and its really annoying.

I myself have a rattle noise too so you're not alone.
Ok, I figured out what the rattling issue is.
Apparently the wife has been using regular gas instead of 91 octane (its her car)
The noise was actually pinging coming from the engine.
After having her use nothing but 91 octane, the noise went away.

I guess if you must allow her to drive your G she needs to spend a few hours here on Driver...like that would happen.Gary
I am having the same noise and its not from using other than 91 octane. When the car is cold and i put the clutch in or let off the gas it will rattle. Anyone else fix the issue? I seriously doubt it is detonation, if it was then why would it go away after the car heated up? Maybe the oil is burning and the level is low I vhecked and the oil level was below the Low side of the dipstick. It was like this last time i checked the oil so i took it in to be sure. my mechanic told me the car was only a 1/4 quart low which is normal burn for being 2500 miles into the last oil change. I cannot get a decent reading on the dipstick.
This doesn't really sound right. Our cars can detect detonation and back off the timing quite a bit to prevent it. Warming the car up would make the detonation worse... not better. It's probably something loose rattling on the exhaust that goes away when the metal heats up and expands.
