What does "REV" mean?

Just picked up my '05 6MT DG/G w/ Premium, Spoiler, Trunk Mat, & Splash Guards last night @ Serramonte Infiniti in Colma/Daly City. WHOOPEEE!!!

Question: In the little circle between the speedometer circle and the RPM circle on the dash board it constantly says "REV" in yellow light. What does that mean?

Thanks
ndn

Its a shift indicator. It reminds you when to shift so you don't over rev the engine. You can set it to differ RPM's depending on how you drive. Should be in the owners manual

Thanks XCELR8; I figured that's what it was. But, the wierd part is that the light came on as soon as I started the engine and it stayed on.

Rase-r, thanks, but, I already watched the video. Thanks for the link to the thread.

the yellow REV is always on... there's a red indicator just below it that does all the blinking. if the rev limiter is set over 7900... the red blinker is disengaged. the second link provided above has all the pertinent info on it. pg 5-16 in the user manual explains how to adjust it.

to set the rpm's go to your tripmeter... its very simple.

to achieve max engine speed, set it to 7000
to achieve max engine torque, set it to 4800

Thanks!

Funny thing was that no one at the dealership knew what "REV" was and why the light was constantly on. Not even the Sales Manager.

Btw, I took the car home @ 8:15 pm; so most people were gone.

Instead of "REV" wouldn't it be better if it displayed what gear you were in?

Sorry to highjack your thread but you guys think it's possible to get a 05 cluster into a 03/04 for the REV?

I'd say it would be possible, but it would cost some big $$$$. Clusters are really expensive.

The shift light is cool, but I don't like the layout of the new cluster. The speedo and tach are too far apart, and the REV word is TOO LARGE. They could have made it a little more subtle.

i don't have any problems with the cluster layout... but i agree about the REV. why on earth did they have to overdramatize the thing? oh well... at least it isn't a big fugly arrow flashing like the older gm cars... haha. would have been nice... if when the light is disengaged... the REV word disappeared too.
