Thumbs up 2005 Rev Limiter

After reading my owner's manual cover to cover and going back and double checking. I cannot find anything in the manual about the rev limiter. On the back of the manual it has a date of August 2004 and the build date of my car was December 2004. After missing around with all the buttons and switches on the car I figured out how to set the rev limiter. Its on the odometer reset. I was thinking this could be a handy item when you have to drop your car off to the dealer for service. Maybe set it for 3000rpms. I just do not see anyone resetting it for a joy ride in your car. It took me an hour to find the reset. PS This car does have a bigger set of "*****" than my 2003 1st gear is almost a joke when you smash the peddle 2n gear comes way to fast. IM glad it has a rev limiter. You will need it! Dennis

Are you talking about a "rev limiter" or "shift light"? I believe you are talking about the new shift light on the 05? It does not actually set it as a "limit", it is simply a light to guide your shifting RPM. The rev limiter is what shuts the cars power down when you hit it and that is right after redline!

I need to check this out. I think your right but that sure would be a nice safty mod. I wish it would quit raining so I could put some miles on my car.
It would be nice to have a updated manual. Again the salesman told me someting that was not true. I better get my facts right before I write.
Thanks

It's actually only a shift light. It blinks 500 rpms before your "shift setting" just to warn you it's time to shift. An adjustable rev limiter would be nice, but no sorry, not on this car.

I had the same question in a previous post. I cannot find anything that tells me what the limit is. I can set the warning light all day long, but that doesn't help me in determining at what it should be set at, if I don't know the limit. Can anyone verify what the actual limit is on the car from the factory?

You can download the latest manual here:

http://www.nissan-techinfo.com/infin...p?dept%5Fid=56

It has a Nov. Date. You got the old 5AT owner's manual, later updated to include the 6MT.

REV LIMITER: A device set by factory to cut the engine off after a certain RPM, usually an RPM past redline, cannot be messed with by an average driver.

REV LIGHT: A light that shines only when you hit or pass a certain preset RPM. This is a user setting meaning you choose what RPM you want the light to come on, and is NOT connected with the REV LIMITER. This means that even if you set it to 3K RPM, if a mechanic wants to redline your car during a "joy ride", he still can.

Steve this is all I know is the factory redline is 7000-7100 rpms.
I would set your shift at about 6800 rpms. Like you this car kicks *** and I have seen my tack flash to 7400 rpms. I feel factory rev limites must be set around 7100 rpms. This ride feels way strong. I did a hard shift in to 2nd gear at 6800 rpms and the car went sideways and spun the wheels a good 30 feet. PM me if you think I can help. There are some real sharp people here and you just need to ask great questions. Dennis
