Power-to-Weight Ratio = 0.078

'03 Infiniti G35 Coupe

Base on the ratios, the G should hit 0-60 in 6 seconds approximately and the Mustang around 6.5 seconds. So I say it should be a very close one assuming his bro in the GT is a good manual driver. Of course, that's only up to 60 mph...if you go past that, I think the G might pull a little more at the top end but not much. My .02 cents....

It's going to be close regardless...
What are you talking about the 4.6GT's shoudl hit 0-60 in the 5.5-5.3 range.

What's your basis for that statement?

In regards to this statement...NOT a chance...i know for a fact..the 5.3 0-60 is closer to the 05 Stang in Auto...try more like 5.7 0-60 for the 04 GTs...they are quick and they hit around hit around low 14s stock...that is with the 5spd...auto is much slower...

i used to own a 2001 325i modded with everything except for a supercharger and i raced my buddies 04 GT, manual on the highway doing about 50-60mph and i stayed up the entire time and gained on him at about 100mph, right up to his rear bumper...

Overall, the 04 GTs are quick and so is the G.... i woud say that this race comes down to driver skills.

From what I've read through topics, I've been told there's a big difference in performance feel between the automatic and manual. Here are the performance times for the 6MT:

'04 Infiniti G35 6MT (10/03)
Price as tested: $35,395
0-60 MPH: 5.9 sec.
1/4 Mile: 14.2 sec.
Top Speed: 146 MPH
Braking 70-0 MPH: 153 FT.
Road Holding: .87 g
EPA City, MPG: 20

Does anyone have times for the 5AT so we can compare the performance difference?

Then I can pull up some times of the 04 GT Mustang 5MT and compare.

The fastest time I've seen for the AT is 0-60 in 5.9 1/4 mile in 14.4 But I've seen just two listings for it. The other was 6.1 for 0-60 and 14.6 1/4mile. However, one should keep in mind that an AT will not perform as well pre break-in, which is when these cars are tested, as it will after break-in. There is a more signifigant impact on performance pre-breakin on an AT than an MT. I've seen stock quarter mile numbers as low as 14.2 for the G coupe. Check Catatafish's timeslips. Thus the hype about there being a "huge" difference is only hype. The difference is marginal at best.

This is why I don't like "mag-racing". There are many accounts and I have been part of experiences with the AT running right with the MT.

Man, I didn't realize how cocky some of the G drivers are....first off, the GT 5spd will run low 14's, easily. A 6mt G will run about the same and the 5AT puts less power to the ground via drivetrain loss and will net slower ET's. And to the guy who put the power to weight ratio....learn to account for all factors of power for a car...the GT puts 302 lbs/torque! It has loads of low end power. Honestly, I say just race your friend but I'm thinking you will lose...not by much, maybe a car length or 2 by 80mph.

Interesting that there are so many different specs out there for the G35 6MT or 5AT. Even if there is ANY possibility of me losing this race, That's unacceptable. After running my mouth talking smack about whooping him, I HAVE to back it up. What's the quickest and most cost effective way? I can do the Z tube and K&N filter, which I hear helps, anything else fairly simple that I can just bolt on? I know this is just going to end up being a HP war against each other, I'm just afraid that its a lot easier/cheaper to bump up the HP on a V8 mustang than our cars. I guess in the end, even if I do lose, I'll still always look way better.

I can always tell that people know nothing about drag racing when they talk about 0-60 times. 0-60 means nothing in the real world, especially in cars with 300+ hp that will most likely have traction issues. A STOCK 04 GT vs. a STOCK G35c would be a drivers race, 100%. A G35c MIGHT beat an 05 GT if the 05 is driven poorly, but I can tell you, having driven both extensively, the 05GT is slightly faster and would win given equal driving or from a roll.

We'll have another data point soon . . . once I get my 05 6MT broken in, I'm going to race my buddies 00GT . . . he's got a few boltons and a 100shot of Nitrous. Obviously he'll destroy me on spray, but I'm hoping to hang with him NA.

From what I heard, a CAI intake is bolt on that adds good horse power for what you pay and is very easy to install. Other items that are good to install, are:

High Flow Cats
UR Pulley
Intake plenum (I would recommend to get one that allows you to keep your engine cover)

I think that's about it for easy bolt on's and allowing your car to stay decently quite. Have you ever thought of changing your rear end gear ratio? I heard it does a really good job on 5A's.

I thought the CAI does basically nothing on our cars....

Read up on this about hp/trq differences, too many people are over hyping HP. http://www.vettenet.org/torquehp.html

I've heard the same. I heard that the Z-tube /K&N or popcharger is about the best intake set up

I use to own a 1998 and a 2002 Mustang before my 2004 G35 Coupe 6MT. They are both fast cars. What would I choose if I were going to race myself (thus same driving skills)? I would pick the G35 Coupe 6MT just because I can shift quicker and smoother in this car than the Mustang. I've driven the new 2005 Mustang and actually considering getting one. The 05 drives a lot more civilized the Fox body Mustangs. If mods ($5,000 budget for each car) are done to the cars... I'd pick the Mustang hands down.

Never had a problem pulling on a GT from any gear. Most difficult is from a stop, as they tend to get a nice launch if driven well. On the highway, the 2 extra cylinders should give them an edge, but not once have I ever even been given a challenge by a GT. Race an LS1 F-body if you want to see what a true american 8 is capable in a low priced package. The 4.6, for a v8, no offense to mustang owners, is weak up top. They do sound good though....
