Will I get smoked by my brothers new 04 mustang GT?

My brother gets his new 2004 Mustang GT 5 speed this sunday. I have a 2003.5 G35 cpe 5AT. The specs on his gt are 260 HP and 302 Torque. Its supposed to do 0-60 in 5.5 sec and 1/4 mile in 14.1 sec. As soon as he breaks in his engine he wants to race.

From what I have seen, the G's specs are about the same. (by the way mine is also fully stock). about 5.5 sec 0-60 and 14.2 sec 1/4 mile. I do have more HP but less Torque and his car does have a V8.

Do I have a chance? OR should I do some mods and not tell him before we race. Thanks guys.

The '05 GT's 0-60 is more like 5.25, and it has 300hp.
You will prob lose, but with a skill advantage, you can win.

He got a left over 2004 Mustang GT NOT a 2005. so his numbers are 260 HP and 302 Torque.

And the numbers for the G I pulled of a random site of the web. I assume those are pretty close. It didnt say if it was a 6 spd or 5AT they ran. Correct me if I am wrong on our cars specs for 2003.5 5AT.

I know if it was a new 05 mustang I'd get smoked, but the 2004 that he got, I might have a chance right?

Remember, he is asking for a new '04 Mustang GT...not '05. According to the following specs:

'04 Mustang GT Coupe
Curb Weight = 3,347 lbs
HP = 260
Torque = 302
Power-to-Weight Ratio = 0.078

'03 Infiniti G35 Coupe
Curb Weight = 3,435 lbs
HP = 280
Torque = 270
Power-to-Weight Ratio = 0.082

Base on the ratios, the G should hit 0-60 in 6 seconds approximately and the Mustang around 6.5 seconds. So I say it should be a very close one assuming his bro in the GT is a good manual driver. Of course, that's only up to 60 mph...if you go past that, I think the G might pull a little more at the top end but not much. My .02 cents....

It's going to be close regardless...

Before I realized you're talking about an '04 GT instead of the '05, I was going to ask how much he paid for the '05. I hear some dealers are tacking on a "market adjustment" of $3000 - $6000 for the '05 GT

That's outrageous to tack cash over sticker. But then thats what we all went through for the G when it came out.

He got an unbeatable deal on his left over 04 though. Sticker was 27,000 and he got it for 18,000. I guess the dealer figures who would want an old one with the new bodystyle out.

Looking at the other post, I cant believe the G coupe weighs more than the 2004 mustang gt. How is that possible! The mustang is HUGE. It looks like its twice as big as the G coupe. What's japanese metal made of?

Hey, after you beat him in the race, have him meet up with me at a track and have his @$$ handed even worse!

'04 Infiniti G35 Coupe Supercharged
Curb Weight = 3,435 lbs
HP = 470
Torque = 335
Power-to-Weight Ratio = 0.14

Based on my experience, the 04 Mustang and the G will be about the same through 1st and second gears- you should have a light advantage right off the line. In 3rd he will begin to slightly pull up on you if he is an exceptional driver. If it is cold outside, you will have a little more of an advantage. It seems the G takes better advantage of cold air than the Mustang. He will still begin to even things up in 3rd gear however. For me, this was pre- z-tube.

Good to hear this info. I have been talking smack and would like to back this up. I might have to sneak in the z tube and KN filter to give me the little extra advantage.
