Can someone clear up some things for me? Soon i will be getting the 2005 g35 coupe 6mt, and i wanted to know if i could get a remote starter installed on my car. I heard that it was illegal by this guy the other day, but i just wanted to check with others as to what i could do. If any of you could help me, i would greatly appreticate it. And also if i could install that remote starter, what would be a good product to get for this car. Do any of you have a remote starter in your car????

you have to disable the selenoid that doesnt allow the car to start without the clutch being depressed. But be careful if your one of those guys who parks your car in first gear (watch out for walls!).

pretty sure its not illegal....its just that most shops wont do it because of liability issues. if you do find a shop that will do it, make sure they hook up the neutral safety switch....if the 05 is the same as the 04, its one of the only cars that has this type of switch on a manual trans from the factory. mines has worked good for almost a year already....wont start in ANY gear! i have the clifford rs 3.5. try doing a search on remote start....kpeirson posted the wire color/location for that switch. im pretty sure most installers wont believe you when you tell them there is such a switch in the car. hope this helps

808gcoupe, if this is true, then I would go with the remote start then. Yeah, not a lot of shops are willing to do remote start on a manual tranny cause of what you said. But if there is a switch involved, I'm sure they won't mind doing it at all. The only other way you could get remote start is if you know a person that works at the shop.

Anyways, why not park your car in 1st gear? I do all the time. It works as an extra parking brake, just in case one fails, the other act as a backup. I suggest people do this all the time, especially on hills.

does this mean that we cannot push start our 6mt 04's or 05's. Given this is not something that you would want to do but in a tight situation its always a worthwhile option. Anyone? I didn't know that we had such a "in gear" defeating switch in our G's, impressive.

The guy was saying don't park in first gear and try to remote start your car, car will jump into what ever is in front of it.

If you push start your car you still have to put it in gear so the neutral sensor would be negligible.

Any remote starts will work. The PNP switch wires run between the Tranny and the ECU (under passengers dash). It is a signal that goes to ground ONLY when the tranny is in in Neutral. I don't know the wire color off the top of my head but I have found the wire in my vechicle, and as said above once upon a time I posted the wire color on the boards (may have changed in 05 though).

You don't 'disable' a 'solanoid' on the clutch. I'm not 100% sure of this but I believe the clutch has a switch inline with the starter signal. This makes it so you MUST push the clutch in before the car will start (another form of protection from starting your car in gear). As long as you hook it up right the only time the switch will be bypassed is when you are remote starting the car. All other times the switch should work like it does now and require you to push the clutch in in order to start the car.

Wow, that's a pretty cool switch. I take it they didn't have for the '03s? That sucks if they didn't have it for the '03s.

Yesh I know this. I was referring to the fact that everybody should park in 1st gear at all times. I know that if you don't bypass the switch and remote start the car, the car is gonna jump forward. Yesh, I know all of this.

The 03s should have the switch as well... Nissan has been using them for a very long time, this is nothing new....

yeah i have a friend who's older brother works at BMW and bought his mustang gt their with remote start. He swiftly wrecked it into a wall the next day while selling a car and was lucky enough for the car dealership to be cool and take the car back.... remote start + maual tranny = asking for it

That is not 100% true. If the remote start is installed correctly it can be very safe, it all depends on how much time and thought you put into it. On my last car, a 1994 Chevy Cavalier, I installed magnetic switches on the shift linkage that could sense when the car was in N. I never had any issues with it. Right before I bought my G35 I came up with an IR detector for N positioning that worked really well, but I never installed it because I found the PNP switch and I never put a remote start on my G (yet).

Most people aren't creative enough or thoughtful enough to go the extra mile to make manuals safe. I've seen multiple cars damaged because people think that if monitor the parking brake signal it will be good enough, or people just think 'I'll always leave it in N.' From what I've seen most peoples cars are damaged after someone else drives it, and that other person leaves it in gear!
