G35 Bodywork Suggestions

Hi everyone,

First off thank you, this is a great and informative website. This is my first post and was hoping to get some help. I wasn't exactly sure where to post this topic so I decieded to stick it here...

I own a 2004 Infiniti g35 coupe and had a little bad luck over the past year and a half with some extremely tight underground parking. I scraped the front and rear passenger side of my car on a large pillar near my parking stall. I would like to get body work done and was hoping for some suggestions. Pictures below.

Would my best option just be taking it into a body repair shop? Should I be worried about the new paint matching the existing paint if I did take it in? Any help would be much appreciated.

Also, any recommendations on a heavy duty chrome rim cleaner?

Thanks alot.

Best option may be to remove all four wheels. For good.

Um.... You do need a body shop for sure. I don't think you need a new bumper, but you could get one. Take it in its not just going to be paint. They ill have to buff and sand and bondo a bit. Probably looking around 2 grand I would guess.

Dont worry about the paint, you need to fix those wheels first.

If you only have enough $$ to fix one thing. Fix the rims before you even think about fixing the paint. But if you want pics of my rides...

Daaaaaaamn, very nice.

Im unsure what you mean by "fix" the rims. Are the style of rim I currently have bad for my cars performance? Or are you talking aesthetics only?

The reason I was thinking paint first is because of the corrosion starting to build up. So you'd suggest I look for an inexpensive way to fix my ugly paint/corrosion problem temporarily and focus on the wheels first?

Sorry about the earlier comment, assumed I was getting lit up for humour sake.

Fix as in replace. They are bad for performance, safety (cast vs forged) and aesthetics. You will notice a much better over all appearance of your car by changing them out than you would fixing some paint scratches. To pull the rear dent and paint, you are easily looking at 1-1.5k minimum. You can easily cover them up and prevent rust with some touch up spray. (Obsidian Black paint code is KH3)
Infiniti G35 Automotive Aerosol Spray Paint - Black Obsidian Clearcoat KH3 : Amazon.com : Automotive Infiniti G35 Automotive Aerosol Spray Paint - Black Obsidian Clearcoat KH3 : Amazon.com : Automotive

Then look in the classified section for used rims. You can easily find a decent set with tires for 1k.

Yea it will be expensive to fix those areas. The rear is on a crease as well. PITA to do. As far as wheels. Those ones you have are cast. That means they are not very strong. You want forged that gives them strength. STAY AWAY FROM KNOCK OFF WHEELS. I would say do wheels first and here is why. If you go aggressive, and have to pull the fenders or they rub or anything like that you will crack and rub paint off. Therefore it would cost the same for them to fix that damage from pulling the fenders as if you didn't do wheels first. That's what I would do. As far as my wheels.....

Ok, awesome info. Just ordered that aerosol spray paint. Prior to applying the spray paint to the scrapes should I lightly sand/smoothe the surface a tad?

I had no idea my rims were so inadequate/unreliable. I will definitelty start scouring the classifieds for a superior set of rims and tires. I take it forged rims are the way to go? Are there ways to determine whether the rim is a knock off or the real thing? Any brands in the 1-2grand range I should be keeping an eye out for and conversely avoiding?

Do not expect the coverup spray to look perfect. It will look better but you cant really blend with rattle can.

You can't go wrong with some OEM 19 Rays. I agree, replace those wheels!
