no more Brembos??

I'm considering a G35 vs. and RX-8. Both great cars. Both different cars. While checking out the '05s I noticed they no longer put the Brembo brakes on the G. Anyone know why? The dealer didn't.

Thanks. I'm really having a hard time with this decision.....

The Brembos were removed because they were becoming expensive for Infiniti and since they are having a hard time absorbing costs than they normally would, they went with the standard brakes and increase the rotor's diameter. Also, from what the dealership told me, consumers were complaining about the amount of brake dust generated from the Brembos. I know most of us can live with that, but my guess is that Infiniti wanted to address that issue as well as reducing expense to maintain the same price ranges you see for the '05s even though they have increased a bit because of the costs they no longer can absorb.

No longer needed....

A combination of reasons.

Cost is certainly an issue, but more so reality that the stock brake packages on the newer G35's perform as good or better than the Brembo package.

Car and Driver tested a 2004 G35 6MT sedan (no Brembo's) which only has 215/17 R55 tires. In the test the G stopped from 70mph in only 153 feet!!!

That is less distance than:

350Z- 164 ft.
G35 Coupe (with Brembos)- 157 ft.
BMW 330i- 158 ft.
Lamborghini Murcielago- 155 ft.
Saleen S7- 156 ft.

The non-Brembo brakes are not just best in class, but among the best in the world.

Mods, can you set up the forum so newbies have to perform at least 1 search before they post for the first time?

Feel wise, modulation wise, the stock brakes can't hold Brembos' jock.

I'm going to say something about the RX-8........1. Underpowered, though not slow I would love to see 275 or so hp in there. 2. I've read of horrible gas mileage and burning oil constantly 3. resale of the RX-8, not as good as infiniti.....

Don't get me wrong the RX-8 is sexy, but so is the G35, but the G35 will be had for about $10k more, so it depends on what you are looking to spend.

The stockers will fade way before the Brembos on the track. I know because I was at the track with some Z's with stock brakes.

G35 > RX8

I also came down to a decision between the RX-8 and the G35c 6mt (after I had to rule out the BMW M3 - too much $).

The final factor was the engine. The RX-8 is a rotary engine, and revs very, very high to make the HP. It just didn't fit my driving style/preference for a more linear/shorter power curve.
Shortly after I bought my G, Mazda had to backtrack on the official HP number of the RX-8, after tests showed lower-than-advertised HP.
I would also say the G is more practical, has a nicer/more intuitive/more ergodynamic interior than the RX-8. Although I have my share of rattles!
I believe customer service is also better. Infiniti tries to be upscale with their service.

My $.02

OK.
S.

i will repost chops point because thats what i was thinking when i read abotu stock brakes vs brembos. Brembos may not stop as well if u take a cold car with cold brakes, but take that car to the track and do a couple of runs and then a 70-0mph time.... see what happens then.

btw rx8's arent in the same class with a G im sorry. Everytime i see one... i think of a 16 year old kid sitting behind the wheel of some ricer mobile. when i see a G its always an adult driving. I know this prolly sounds dumb coming from a 17 year old, but i just feel like the G has a lot more class. I drove the **** outa some girl's rx8 and i do have to say it has a nice ebrake and very nice neutral stearing at high speeds in corners with tires burning hahaha good god im glad that wasnt my car... that girl's father needs a beating for giving that car to someone so irresponsible. Puting ME behind the wheel of HER semi-high performance vehicle.....

(i dont drive my G like this... i pay for tires, brakes, and clutch on this car, so i dont treat it like that and dont htink i would even if i didnt have to pay for them)

My dealer tried to tell me brembo's aren't reliable and the new brakes will impress your friends more because they look big. go figure
