Can changing from MT-90 to valvoline make it hard to shift?

I changed my clutch, pressure plate, throw out and pilot bearings. Of course I drained my fluid and replaced my Redline MT90 with valvoline 75/90. It's really hard to get into first and reverse is almost impossible. 5th grinds just a little.
Is it my choice in fluid??????
Pls help

I've never heard of someone having issues with the Valvoline but our cars can be picky about things. Easy solution is to drain it and go back to redline and see if that fixes the issue. If not, there might have been an issue with the installation of your new parts.

I had a AX15 tranny in my wrangler with 280XXX miles on it, that would never go into 2nd and hardly go into 1st. After I put Redline MT 90 in it, I never had another issue.
My G trans had 207,696 on it and had the original clutch in it.
I ordered the redline yesterday. I hope that fixes it. It's tough to shift

YES! The Valvoline gear oil is GL-5 rated and our transmissions need GL-4 and only GL-4 oil. There's extra additives in GL-5 that can cause pre-mature wear on the copper syncros used in most, if not all, Nissan manual transmissions.

Drain that stuff out and replace with Redline MT-85 or MTF directly from Nissan.

Valvoline I assume was "LS" with limited slip additive. That 75w90 fluid will work fine in the rear differential (supposed to be 80w90 but I don't think it matters), but NOT the transmission. You need GL4 fluid that is 75w85. I used Redline in tranny and Mobil 1 in rear differential.

Yes, you're supposed to use GL5 in the diff. No additives needed for the limited slip either.

Put the MT 90 back in and got my gears back. Simply amazing fluid. No more grinding or hard shifts

Spoke too fast. Reverse is still near impossible. No telling what's wrong

The metal shift plate under the shift boot is may not be aligned properly, so you physically can't put the car in reverse. Google search it. I had this problem, mechanic said he did everything right but I insisted he double check... I was right, easy fix.
