Usually the first sign the sensors are going out is hard starting/running rough. This will usually start before a CEL comes on.
When my driver side one went bad I had no warning. Car started fine the morning on my way to work. 15 minutes of highway driving no problems. Coasting down a overpass to a light and noticed the engine was off while still in drive. Pulled car over in traffic (with no engine power or power steering or brakes). Restarted at a gas station and the engine took a while to start (probably 5-6 seconds) and the engine light was on.
I didn't know it was safe to drive on so I had it towed to the dealership. I think the dealer charged me like 400 bucks to get it up and running again. I know for next time. It's been the only repair on the car that was not a maintenance item for 120k miles so I guess i should be happy.
