Why does my car ping after I drive it?

My car pings every time I drive it and park it. My friend has a 06 g35 sedan and we drove to the exact same place from my house and he was flooring it pretty much all the way there and I was driving normal. But when we parked his car was completely quiet and my car was pinging like crazy? I know it means the car is cooling off but is there any other reason the car would ping? It sounds like exhaust to me, I put my ear in the engine and it didn't sound like it was coming from there.

Kind of a dumb question but you want to start with the easiest things first. What octane gasoline do you use? Does it sound like it may be a loose heatshield?

Always 93 BP Shell or Sunoco . It's not a heat shield. Its the pinging you hear after you drive your car hard but I can drive it normally for 2 minutes and it will ping hard as hell.

the pinging is your exhaust cooling. it has nothing to do with gas.

Understood. But like I said my friend drove with me in 06 sedan. His car didn't ping at all. Why particularly my car? Is this symptoms of a malfunction?

There is nothing wrong with your car.

Mine never used to and now it ticks loud as hell from a normal drive. I am thinking a weld on a heat shield on the cats has broken and its just making more noise than before. I'm not worried but I will probably start saving for high flow catts

My brakes do it sometimes. I think it's the hot metal settling... it's normal. New cars do it.

that "pinging" would be detonation or pre-ignition. But yes, in this situation it has nothing to do with gas. It's the metal in the exhaust cooling

For me, it was removing the rusted out heat shields. Total difference once they were removed
