LoJack will not protect your car from being stolen. Just may or maynot help find it quicker. $800? Was only $600 when offered to me. Save the money and upgrade the alarm system. Even that may not help, but just dont make it too easy for the thief.

I'd say yes. It is worth it... But 800 bucks for it? Maybe Guardian but not for LoJack. I think I paid around $400 bucks or less for LoJack. True, it wont stop your car from being stolen but it'll do a hell of a lot more to help recover your car than any non-tracking alarm will. Lojack's recovery rate is 90% or better. And your insurance company may give you a break since you have it. Mine gave me a 30% discount. That added up to $400 over a 6 month period.

That being said, if I had known about Guardian, I would have went with them. I believe they offer a lot more features and whatnot.

The funny thing is nobody has had there car stolen. There still is no one on all the forums that I can find that have had there car stolen. One guy said his car was stolen but he did not prove it. You never can be to careful.

Wow! I called my insurer, USAA, and they said Lojack installation would only reduce my premium up to 15% of only the comprehensive portion of the policy - nowhere near $400.

30% discount= $400 in 6 months? Damn, your insurance must be ultra expensive!

Thumbs down

I considered lojack when I bought my '05. I spoke with a local (non-dealer) car audio shop tech and he said that he sees the lojack unit during most of his stereo installs. I guess the lojack installers don't always hide the unit so well. He said he could probably find it under 30 minutes if he was looking for it.

Knowing this, all a thief has to do is spend 30 minutes searching for the lojack unit, disable or discard it and its worthless.

I'd like a system that can monitor the car's location in real-time, lojack does have an early-warning version but its almost a grand.

Given the low prices of cellular airtime and the GPS system, there are now dozens of systems that you can install and track your car with a web browser. (just google for "car theft gps locator"...)

15% still adds up to some decent savings, lol. Yeah my insurance ran to the tune of $1,400 for a 6 month premium... But then I was like wait, I have Lojack! I was surprised by the 30% they took off, too.

What was it called... Oh yes, network car. Or something like that. Didn't they do exactly what you are saying? tracking in real-time and all? Also, they provided a whole host of other services.

How much is your Comprehensive coverage? USAA applies the 15% reduction only to that portion.
