G35 vs the Maxima

So I am here to talk about these two cars. I have a heavily modded maxima and a relatively modded g35.

Now I am going to say a few things that might make a few of you offended but I am here on an objective mission. I am a super sport motorcycle rider with a very heavily modified 383 stroker corvette, roll cage and all, so don't mistake me for some racecar wannabe, i've got the ultimate in speed, I go to the race track all the time, i don't have anything to prove with my maxima on this forum. In fact I think the G is still a much nicer car.

The 6th gen maxima is faster than the 1st gen G35. period. it was faster stock and its much faster modified with what I have. to be specific the G35 always pulls on me in 1st gear (RWD) but I reel them in and pass by each time. With a few exceptions this has been my experience with probably around 30 head to head races at Irwindale speed way with various G35's

My reason for posting this is I am trying to figure out WHY the G feels faster when it isn't. I wanna see if there are any members in here knowledgable enough to tell me specifically how the G's drive train, suspension, rev mapping, HP/Torque, what... makes it feel this way.

The G throws my head back and blasts forward while the maxima just kinda wafts to speed. In the G I can feel the back of my seat pushing me foreward kinda like a lesser version of my vette but in the maxima I feel like I am being pulled foreward. Is this entirely do to the RWD vs FWD or something more? I drove a 2012 3 series around for 3 months and it didn't feel at all like the G, again more pulling than pushing in acceleration and that is RWD.

Who can explain this. Why does the acceleration in the maxima among other cars feel so light but is indeed faster in reality than another sports car?

Personally, I think the throttle response is what gives it that feel, but that may not be it for you since youre racing. It may be better on the low end than the maxima, and probably the 3 series.

Have you compared the final drive and transmission gearing ratios yet? Lets not forget that FWD has far less drivetrain loss.

Are you talking about a Drag Race?

The Maxmia Might have higher HP top end where as the G has more Torque in the low end. Which could explain the Maxmima winning a Drag Race.

What I could find for a 6th Gen

Please Note that these charts are for just general comparison.

Its Clear the G has a bit more of TQ down low. Which is a function of Intake,Cam and Exhaust Design(less Exhaust as on the 35 its nothing special) and Tune.

^i agree

Also, manual or auto G35? Type of tranny doesn't make a big difference on the maxima but big difference for the G

My dad has 4th gen maxima with a 3.5 swap which is a way lighter body than the 6th gen. Also has a quaife LSD tranny, full exhaust, and he has never beaten my G. It's close, maybe a car, car and half. But again never won

Mine is a 07 revup though with bolts ons

When my 05' was new, I got into it with an 05' Max, we were VERY close until third gear and I could walk him every time.

RWD and FWD is always different. FWD don't have a drive shaft and the Maxima has that crapy CVT transmission, they are slower to react. but over all the maxima is about 100lb lighter in suspension. The G35 just have a fat ***. But the G35 should win b/c of the aggressive engine and transmission.

what mods do you have on the maxima

Both are slow.

This pretty much sums up a G35s and Maximas racing.

Thanks guys this thread is great. There is a lot of info that makes sense. Especially the throttle response answer. The Maxima is always very slow to react on the throttle compared,d unless it is in automanual. I do not have the CVT thank god. Those transmissions are worthless. the G is a 2006 auto type S, the maxima is a 2005 5speed auto with OD. I have a mod list of all my cars floating around so I will just copy and paste it below.

Yeah I had a feeling the G has a lot of drive train loss, but even still, its a beast and I love it.

2003 nissan Altima

Being able to afford a used GTR and being able to afford maintenance/repairs on a used GTR are two completely different animals.

Price a new transmission for a GTR, you buy a new Corolla for that.

haha but who wants a corolla? low level cars...

and exactly why I don't have one, couldn't afford to keep it as I am still a lowly college student. But when I grad its going to be game on.

When I do get one I'm getting it with the alpha 9 package.
