HELP me make a decision pls

Hello everyone,

potential G35 owner here....just paid a deposit on an 05 G35 coupe, its got the factory Nav...automatic transmission with no brembo brakes. i'm taking it to be saftied to my closest Nissan dealership but i'm still unsure about the car because i keep reading up about oil consumption issues with the 05s. I do notice that the oil consumption issues seem to be predominantly with the 6MTs which i guess are the coupes that are standard transmission? As you can tell i'm not very knowledgeable but have loved Gs for a long time. Can you please tell me if i should be concerned about oil consumption with this 05 NON 6mt that i'm looking at? i'll be taking it to the dealer for a Engine compression test and will probably do an oil consumption test....any help, tips, advice would be appreciated....i simply can't afford to buy a lemon with my financial situation.....thanks in advance....

Once 05 came around, a lot of OC issues became more prevalent as 05-07 6mt had the rev up engine. A lot of rev ups have this issue. Ok Maybe not a lot, but a good amount-myself included. If I'm not mistaken nobody's year G was ever completely excluded from OC issues. I've heard of cases of guys with non rev ups(which you have being 5at) having oil issues as well. Best to learn as much as you can about the car from whosever selling it to you
Just because you're burning oil doesn't necessarily mean it's a lemon
Monitor it frequently

Thanks for your reply...looking at the history of the car from the ministry of transportation...the car was driven about 50,000 kms between 2005 and 2006....and then it was driven about 50,000 between 2006 and now....should i be seriously concerned about oil consumption issues given the fact that the car was driven quite a bit in the early years of its life?

I've heard its possible to check for markings put on by the dealer after they do the OC test marking the oils levels from the start to the end of the test. Obv if these markings are there then previous owners were aware it was burning too much and went to get it checked out. I don't think you have too much to worry about especially with it being a non rev up. Any pics ?

You're doing the right thing by taking it a dealer to get looked over. Just really look at what your getting into though. If you are having a tough "financial situation", this might not be a car you want to get into. How many miles are on it? Nothing on these car are cheap. Just really research this platform. Best of luck!

the car is a 2005...it has 103000 kms on it......i am aware of the higher costs of maintenance of the vehicle...i guess what i meant by a "tough financial situation" is that i can't really afford for the car's engine to be dead and it to be sitting in my drive way while i still have a 5 yr loan on it...(but i guess not many can afford that anyways)....i drove an acura 3.2 TL for years knowing that it had tranny issues....i was lucky it went all the way to 320K kms before the transmission died but transmissions are on the whole part a much smaller and less costlier problem than engine issues...which has me concerned....really all i want is the car to run for 5 yrs at least until i'm loan free....at that point i can move on if it craps out.....i'll take it in to the dealership on Monday...i'll keep you posted...thanks for the replies everyone...really appreciate it....

Yes and get as much prior maintenance information as you can.

I bought an '05 5AT a couple months ago and haven't had any oil consumption issues with it. Infact I didn't even bother to go get a compression test or oil consumption test done, the chances of having OC issues with an AT are very slim like others have said, and even if you did have OC issues it won't be a major issue since most people with a 6MT that have OC problems carry around a 1L bottle of oil in their trunk and fill up every once in a while.

Like Blue dream said, get the maintenance info, specially things like transmission fluid change (and if it was done at 50K and 100K and other things.

my input is that if you are taking out a 5 year loan... get something with better or lower rather mileage... unless G35s are few and far between in your area, you should definitely look at financing a lower mileage vehicle if you ask me...

I'd look for something more in the 40-60K mile range if not even less...

I'm a soon to be g35 owner as well, and from what I've found on forums is the 03-04 6spd didn't have the oil consumption issues, but now I'm confused.

Is the "rev-up" only on 6spd and do all "rev-up" have the consumption problem?

Or was I more correct 03-04 6spd are okay?

Relatively. Every car can have an oil consumption issue.
