Help! G35 revvs high into 4th/5th gear 40-50mph - transmission or flash fix?

Hi, my car has been amazing since day 1 but the miles are up there at 195,000. I couldn't have asked for a better car. But now...I took it to a mechanic for a major tune up and five days later I was driving uphill over highway 17 in San Jose and instead of gaining speed, I heard and saw a high rev and experienced a gutless car. It's been doing this now for three weeks and the oddest part is that is doesn't do this when I shift to manual. Except for last night - it had trouble getting into 5th gear in manual/tiptronic mode.

I searched the forum and found some things but nothing concrete on this topic.

I took it back to the mechanic and they test drove it, change the transmission fluid and filter, and it behaved for about 3-4 days. Then back to high rev and now a SHUDDER at 40mph unless it's in manual mode. It's not the tires, I just put new ones on and had them balanced.

I am hearing "transmission" but I thought these cars went well past 200k without a new transmission. It just feels like a fuel issue or timing or - ???

HELP?

sounds to me like your tranny is slipping. at 200k any number of things can happen....

I'd have it serviced & diagnosed professionally

Yep. Have you ever checked the fluid level at all, since low fluid can cause slippage? At that mileage though expect having it rebuilt/replaced.

Thanks and...

Yes, I've had the fluid looked at, replaced and the filter too. I was told that these cars easily go to 250-300 without needed a transmission but...I'm wondering what I should expect the cost to be for work on the transmission/rebuild?

Yes, I'm taking it to Infinity soon but I've found that the dealer simply hands me a really long list of misc items or wants to charge $$$$, or 'cannot repeat error' and charges anyway so I wanted to check the forums.

GO over to Beshoff Infiniti on the east side... Frontier Infiniti is always jam packed & charges more... Beshoff they were much more reasonable to deal with..

& FWIW the life of the car can vary from vehicle to vehicle... some may last 300K with little maintenance, others will last 100K with fanatical maintenance... Cars are much like people... each one is unique.

Thanks all! I normally go to Beshoff Infiniti So the result is...5th gear is Gone. I'm now selling it with the CARFAX and disclosing that it needs a rebuilt for $2500 from AMCO. I'm selling it for $2900. Such a bummer, I have really loved this car but it has 197k on it now.
