Anyone flushed their 5AT at Nissan?

I know there are billions of transmission threads and they all say don't flush your tranny. But Nissan says their machine doesn't introduce air into the tranny.I just want to know if anyone has tried it before because I don't need a slipping tranny especially since this is my only car. I told them about the tranny can't be flushed and they said yeah we know blah blah..I have 130K miles on the car, no idea when the last tranny service was. The only reason I've turned to this is because Infiniti wants be to do a drain and fill 3x which costs $540. At that point I could just get a new tranny or even swap for a 6MT

You'd be better off doing it yourself. It's not hard what so ever. I've done it multiple times on my G.

Their flush is very pricey. If you can change oil you can do the same to the transmission. I think a drain and refill takes ~3.5 quarts. Take off drain plug, clean off shavings, replace crush washer and torque plug to 25 ft lbs. Also a perfect time to upgrade to Nissan S-Matic fluid which is a fully synthetic as apposed to J-Matic.

If you decide to get it done at Nissan I'd request S-Matic otherwise you'll get J-Matic.

Wow is it really that easy for a drain and fill? And is it worth doing a flush anymore? The dealership told me I should do a flush since I don't know the last time it was flushed. My local dealership said they would do a drain and fill for $179 so I guess it's worth a try to do by myself.

Yeah. Its actually easier than a oil change and the Stealership also wants your $$$.

I also wouldn't worry about the 5AT. Its a solid transmission and is also used in much bigger vehicles.

Have you checked the condition of the fluid? Is it red, brown, or black? Smell burnt?

Not horrible, but won't hurt to do a drain and refill a few times.

But I'm not sure I understand this. If you do a drain and fill and 3.5 quarts comes out, how do you know a different 3.5 quarts is going to come the next time..If that makes sense. I'm just asking since there is 11 quarts in total and only 3.5 is only coming out.

The main purpose is to get new fluid flowing through it. The color will get lighter and cleaner each time.

I'm curious...how many times do you have to do this before you have clean fluid. (How many quarts does it take?)

Stealership prices for those stupid enough to pay them!

That's the price Infiniti quoted me, I asked them if I had "Stupid" written on my forehead? I suggest you do a "Drain & Fill" now and do it a few more times while changing your oil over the next six months. Remember Nissan uses the same fluids, mechanics are better trained and they charge 30% less than Infiniti!

You'll have to do it about 4-6 times before you get rid of most the old fluid. I did the drain and fill 5 times before I started to see mainly clean fluid

It's $8.75 for a quart of a S-Matic at my local nissan so doing that 5 times is about $160. So almost the same price as a flush

Do it over time, not drain/refill after driving around the block if that is easier. My fluid was slightly brown and after (2) drain/refills it looked much nicer. I guess its easier for some that have been on top of changing the fluid from the start.

Factory service manual says nothing about a flush and is not recommended by most:

Changing A/T Fluid NLS0001U
1. Warm up ATF.
2. Stop engine.
3. Loosen the level gauge bolt.
4. Drain ATF from drain plug and refill with new ATF. Always refill
same volume with drained fluid.

To replace the ATF, pour in new fluid at the charging pipe with
the engine idling and at the same time drain the old fluid from
the radiator cooler hose return side.
When the color of the fluid coming out is about the same as
the color of the new fluid, the replacement is complete. The
amount of new transmission fluid to use should be 30 to 50%
increase of the stipulated amount.

CAUTION:
Use only Genuine NISSAN Matic J ATF. Do not mix with other fluid.
Using automatic transmission fluid other than Genuine NISSAN Matic J ATF will cause deterioration
in driveability and automatic transmission durability, and may damage the automatic
transmission, which is not covered by the warranty.
When filling ATF, take care not to scatter heat generating parts such as exhaust.
Do not reuse drain plug gasket.
5. Run engine at idle speed for 5 minutes.
6. Check fluid level and condition. Refer to MA-20, "Checking A/T Fluid" . If fluid is still dirty, repeat step 2.
through 5
.
7. Install the removed A/T fluid level gauge in the A/T fluid charging pipe.
8. Tighten the level gauge bolt.
