You also may Google service bulletin: NPSB/07-027, where Nissan advises against flushes.

I paid $5 per quart so when I was done I paid about $100 over a 2 month period

Whoa $5 a quart? Where do you get your fluid from and is it S Matic? Cheapest I've found S Matic is around $8 a quart and J_Matic actually sells for more.

Yep. I pay $5.47 per quart but the thing is I get mine from a mechanic that used to work for nissan. He gets it cheap and sells it to me for the price he bought it for. And I get S matic. And yes you may pay almost the same as taking it to a stealership but it's better to do it yourself

Guy's...Nissan can do a complete refill without doing a detergent flush which seems to be the main contention. I don't know if a flush ( solvent cleaning can cause problems). But a complete machine refill will drain all old fluid and replace it with clean fluid. I personally do not believe that these partial refill's are effective. New transmissions are expensive.

Here's my story...I hit a filled quart bottle of coke at 110mph. I could not swerve to avoid the bottle at that speed on a two lane road. I could feel it hit very hard upfront and then under the pedals. Long story short...It shattered the plate between the transmission cooler and the radiator. The coolant mixed with the trans fluid and destroyed my transmission. Fluid also eats every hose. So all hoses replaced ( $1200.00) New trans and valve body.

The moral of this is that the guy's that just add 3.5 liters are cheap and wasting fluid. Go to the dealer and get a fill ( if your concerned about a flush just get a fill. I wish Q45 Tech was still around he would tell you the same thing.)

Can you explain more about this "machine"? What you described sounds like a flush to me. A flush is when new fluid is pushed through the transmission until the fluid appears to be clean. Never heard of "detergents" being used because essentially trans fluid is a detergent. Are you also implying the factory service manual is incorrect and that Nissan/Infiniti messed up?

A drain/fill really is easier than the oil change. No silly engine cover to remove to access everything.

For me, it takes about 4 quarts each time i've done it. I have done it ever 30K miles with the first one at 30K miles. I have currently 131K on my car and it shifts great still. Just like when the car was new.

I buy the fluid off Ebay. There are some good deals if you buy in bulk.

Here is a link to the B&G website. http://www.bgprod.com/products/transmission.html These are the machines that the majority of dealers use for trans refills/flushes. This is the machine used on my trans.

Nissan says they suck the fluid out from the tranny using a machine from the cooler lines coming from the tranny. This is what they call a "flush".
