Sold My G35 Coupe After 10.5 Years of Ownership

After 10.5 years of ownership from new, I have finally sold my low mileage trust worthy G35 Coupe. It was not an easy decision but it wasn't feasible to keep 3 cars when I was the only driver. I still loved my car to the last day. It was in absolutely pristine condition (Ivory Pearl with Graphite/Auto) with only 56,000 miles. There wasn't a mark or blemish anywhere on the body, and the interior looked like a new car. This was not an easy task, but after years of always parking away from other cars, never going to an automatic car wash and doing mostly 95% city driving all helped. In addition, I had a clear bra from new which kept the front bumper flawless, I had maybe 2 or 3 microscopic chips on the hood and replaced my drivers seat cushion twice as well as the vinyl trim. No cracks on the dash. Most front suspension parts were replaced under factory extended warranty. This included all compression rods, ball joints, spindles, wheel bearings, as well as the CD player, drivers side window motor and actuator. Front brakes were ceramics and believe it or not, my car was fairly free of rattles! There was not much more for me to do, I decided to get something a little different an purchased a 2010 Jaguar XK Coupe with 4,800 miles. I will always miss my G35 Coupe as it was super reliable and never once let me down. It had some shortcomings which were mostly in the fit and finish dept, but overall, was a great bang for the buck as well as being a great looking car after all these years. I've also enjoyed these forums, and plan on coming back to comment now and then.. The prices on these cars have really come down (although I did manage to get a strong price for my car) and there are good deals out there, but it's hard to find an original unmolested car. Thanks guys for all the info and enjoy your cars. I had a great ride for 10 years!

Congratulations and best wishes with the Jaguar. I've owned my G for 6 years, and 70,000 miles now, and I'm considering a change...but it's tough, given the level of quality and reliability I've experienced in this car.

I'm glad to hear good experience with someone who had this car for that long of a time! I hope to get some years out of my preowned g coupe as well

Bought mine in December 2002. So it's just a little over 11. Has just a little over 24,000 miles on it. A couple of months ago I posted that I might trade it on a Porsche Cayman S. However, I've changed my mind and am going to hang onto it for a few more years. Hard to give these cars up!!!

Hard? I couldn't even imagine! I usually lose interest in my cars after 3 years or so. I've had the G for 3 years now and there's no sign of that. I still look at it and drool every day. Of course I did get pissed at it a few times during the couple months in which I rebuilt my suspension, but now that its done, i love it even more! People think I'm lying when I tell them its an 04; It still looks brand new. Not just the condition but the styling. I don't feel like the car is dated at all. I can still pick up chicks when I drive by the Baskin Robbins.

I second this!^ 18 and still in highschool and this car appeals to everyone in the parking lot, I still get comments after class. People think its a 10' or 11' although its an 03'... doesn't look outdated at all imho.

Wow, I don't come here very often any more. I dropped by today, and there are two threads about people with 10+ years owning a coupe that sold it or are thinking about selling. I plan on keeping mine for a while yet.

I can agree with both of you. My problem is that I actually think the G Coupe is better looking than the Cayman. I also have the problem of having 3 other cars. I have a Mazda Miata that I've owned since Dec of 1989 yes that's 25 years. 74,000 miles and I will never sell it. I have a 2010 Mercedes Benz E Coupe which is one of the nicest Coupes MB has built with the exception of the SLS series. They are bringing out a new S series coupe which is absolutely beautiful but, pushing over $200,000. The work horse of the group is a 1996 Isuzu Rodeo (it's my Home Depot/Lowes hauler). So far the new Jaguar F Coupe could be a G replacement in a couple of years.

Back when I was in high school I drove a brand new 1964 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible (first year of production for the Chevelle) and a 1957 Triumph TR3A. I've owned at least one 2 seated sports car since 1964.

I've owned 2 cars that I wish I had never sold. A 1963 Split Window Corvette Coupe and yes...a 1967 427 Corvette Convertible. If your 18< with a G coupe think carefully before you sell. I never though my vettes would be worth much...man was I wrong.

boca - sorry to see you go. I'm approaching 10 years of ownership myself (in September) and might be getting the itch, but every time I start browsing I'm left with a "meh" feeling, unless it's a '09+ Carrera or an E90/E92 M3. Mine is still in excellent condition as well, with <49K on the clock, rebuilt front suspension, beautiful paint, etc. and people always ask me if it's a recent model year as well. The design of this car has really aged well, better perhaps than the 08+ G37 coupe. I've had a few minor issues over the years (some squeaks and rattles, the fuel sending unit, axle click, rocking driver seat, window motor) but all covered under warranty, and overall it's been a rock solid and reliable car, in addition to a blast to drive.

This may turn out to be one that I never want to sell just because...
