Angry you will not believe what happened...

just got my 05 G last week and my transmission died on me today! WTF! i started my car, then saw "AT" light blinking. placed the shifter on D, and felt a slight jolt. I though to myself, oh no, this is not good, this isnt happening. then i stepped lightly on the gas and it went up to 3500 rpm and barely moved a foot. I parked the car on the side, turned off my engine, waiting like 3 mins, then repeated what i did and same thing happened. i had to drive home about 10 mins away local and the gear did not switch at all! it continued to stay on first gear whether i step on the gas harder or lighter.
I then moved the shifter to use the sport shifter and it says the gear is on '4' when i was going only 20mph.

man, this is f**ked up. Infiniti will be towing my car away soon. What do you guys think? should i demant a brand new replacement car? I don't want a lemon. When i bought the car, it had 120 miles on it. Regardless, this shouldn't have happened! has anyone had any problems with their tranny?

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, hope the dealer takes care of you.

Someone dogged this one out. I hear the AT tranny is "bullet proof" My ddealer told me that he has yet to replace one either in the G or the Q.

the dealer i went to said they barely got it came from san diego. i bought it from montclair. even though it had so many miles, i decided to go with it since that was the only dealership around the area that had everything i wanted in that color. edit** it didn't have 120 miles when i got it, it actually had 160! my girlfriend confirmed it.

a car is considered to be "new" up to and including 499 miles - considered to be "test-drive" miles.

sorry about your car. that sucks.

Your tranny is in fail safe mode. Fail safe mode locks the tranny into 4th gear. That's why it barely moved at 3500 RPM. Mine did that on my way to the dealer to get my Navi unit replaced. I was driving on the freeway, and the car felt like it dropped out of overdrive.

Then the SES light came on. I noticed at stops, that it would really slip the torque converter to get started. Dealer said the tranny threw a "shift solenoid" code or something like that. When the car was restarted, it acted normally. They couldn't reproduce it, and said it was probably just a fluke. That was when I had ~400 miles on the car. I haven't seen that since, and I have almost 15,000 miles now.

Though one time, my SES/VDC/Slip lights all came on (without the brake light tho), and the car wouldn't move faster than idle. Computer threw a "unrecognized signal from Throttle Position Sensor" code. I Restarted car, and haven't seen that code/problem since.

Damn gremlins... Whatever tho. At least it didn't strand me. The tranny in my wife's TL self destructed on the freeway. That was truly f'n scary. I was WOT merging onto the freeway, and it missed third gear @ 6000 RPM. I thought the engine was going to blow up.

WOW! 160 miles! I wouldnt have accepted it. I was complaining when I got my car and it read 47. I used ebay.com to check for other "new" cars and yeah some of them had 60 or even 80 at most. 160, thats just unacceptable. That must have been the test drive car for a whole year.

Dude...you got a lemon...if you open up your anti-lemon sales laws that infiniti gives you in your leather manual case, you might be entitled to a new car.

Hell, I was complaining when I got my car and it had 22 miles on it! I told the dealer when I ordered it that I did NOT want a car with more than 10 or 15 miles max. on it. I asked him if there would be any reason why the car would arrive with more miles than this, and he said no, because it was coming directly from the port and not another dealership. So when I went to pick up the car one of the first things I did was check the odometer and told him I was not happy about the excessive mileage. He said it was not driven more than 1/8 mile since they received it and he did not know why it had 22 miles on it but sometimes this happens. There is no way I would buy a new car with 160 miles on it, I would sooner buy a used car and save some money.

do you know why your tranny did this though? Could it be a faulty tranny? My check engine light was the only light that turned on.

I read the Lemon Law booklet and it says only after repeated repairs that it is considered a lemon, and if infiniti did not perform a repair within a certain amount of time.

ahhh!!! ill wait and see what the dealer says tomorrow! this sucks so much!

Yeah I don't know, and the dealer didn't know. They said it was probably just a computer glitch I suspect if the tranny dies on me, I can always point back to the service record where the car threw the code. I looked up the code, (I forget what it was). I think it described the code as being thrown if the PCM receives a signal from the shift solenoid that was out of range. I'm guessing the PCM freaked out, and locked the tranny in 4th gear, which is why it felt like it fell out of overdrive, becuase it probably shifted from 5 to 4.

At least there was an idiot light to tell you there was something wrong with your tranny.

Sorry about your misfortune, but I found the blinking "AT" light to be funny, like as if you didn't know the tranny was f00ked.
