I then moved the shifter to use the sport shifter and it says the gear is on '4' when i was going only 20mph.

man, this is f**ked up. Infiniti will be towing my car away soon. What do you guys think? should i demant a brand new replacement car? I don't want a lemon. When i bought the car, it had 120 miles on it. Regardless, this shouldn't have happened! has anyone had any problems with their tranny?

Should have got the 6MT instead J/K

About a week ago I went to my local Infiniti dealership hoping that I could take a look at the 2005 MT Coupe. I just wanted to check out the new updates. They didn't have any, of course. They did however had only one 2005 MT Sedan that just came in. The salesman took me to the back so I could take a look at it but the car wasn't there. After standing there for about 5 minutes the car was driven back by an Infiniti mechanic (or someone like that in the uniform). When this guy stepped out of the car his face was glowing like he just test-drove an F1 or something like that. The first thing that came out of his mouth was: "Man this car is fast…I don't understand why it says ‘REV’ on the panel…” At that point I knew that he took this car for a joy ride around the dealership. When I got into the car it smelled like my brother's Subaru when he races it on the track. The smell of clutch was everywhere. The car only had 11 miles on it. I regret that I didn't mention this incident to anyone at the dealership.
Who knows, maybe “good” people like that is the reason why some of you are having problems with your cars…

I read the Lemon Law booklet and it says only after repeated repairs that it is considered a lemon, and if infiniti did not perform a repair within a certain amount of time.

ahhh!!! ill wait and see what the dealer says tomorrow! this sucks so much!
You are correct, the lemon law only applies when you give the dealership a chance to fix it and they cant after a few tries. Bring it to them and demand a loaner until it’s done. It probably just threw a code like previously stated. What ever it is it’s under warranty so no sweat. Since a couple people have said something similar has happened to them. I would ask about it possibly being a recall issue.

Update: Worst News Ever!

here's the latest news and update on my car... NO, the car did not throw out a code that caused the tranny to react. The "VALVE BODY" is whats defective! i asked the technican what exactly is the valve body and he said its the heart of the transmission and must be replaced. I also asked my personal mechanic and he said thats one of the worst things that can happen to a car, for the valve body to be damaged... right now, im still driving a loaner and saturday is the earliest i can expect my car back.

i called up infiniti consumer affairs and they said they will fix the tranny but cannot replace it with a brand new car. I know my situation does not qualify as a lemon but i think i should consult a LAWYER and fight for a new G.

one more thing, i heard infiniti of montclair do not test their cars after they receive it from a plant or transfer, which they are suppose to. just thought i'd share that with the rest of you. of course, i found that out after i bought it from there!

I've had my tranny get stuck before. It happenned to me once, and was the strangest thing. Anyhow, it felt like I was driving with the E Brake on, with high rpm to low power ratios... I stopped after about 30 ft., turned the car off, and then turned it back on.

She started up like a champ, and has been ok since. This was only after about 800 miles or so when this happenned.

On a side note, on ManuMatic mode, She's jumped down from 4th -> 2nd before. Scared the **** out of me since I was expecting that jolt....

Its not like he ordered that car......its an auto, it could have been on the lot for a while, and cars do get test driven. I'm sure he got a better deal on it because it did have some miles, but to consider it "unacceptable" is a little stretch. My previous car, '01 Acura Cl-s had 400 miles on it and I got it for $4k under sticker, do you think I was crying that it had this many miles, no. The car ran well, except for the crappy transmission, which probably 2 out of 5 people had, and I returned it last week.

the car was transferred from SAN DIEGO, CA. to MONTCLAIR, CA, which was why it had so many miles.

I had the exact same problem with my 04.5 G35c with only 62 miles on it... at first they said it was a selinoid, then it was the valve body. They agreed to replace the whole transmission, and they gave me a loaner for the entire time it took them to get a new one from the factory. That was 7000 miles ago and the car has been flawless ever since...btw infiniti roadside assistance took it to montclair and I had it moved to cerritos to have the work done, so it's not like they've never seen this happen before.

the valvebody isnt even close to the 'worst thing that can happen'. It wont be anything for them to replace it. Heck, with the Stillen or Level 10 VB upgrade, they send you directions to do it yourself. I know this really sucks, but dont get too upset. I've had this exact work done on my (previous) Maxima. The worst thing that can happen (and did) is that they didnt give me a new seal and it leaked about a year later. 30 mins more in the shop and it was golden for as long as I kept the car.

If youre worried about the engine, do a Blackstone on the oil.
