Awful rubbing! Shot suspension or tire/wheel size issue?

So my G coupe (non-sport) has 20 inch wheels (8.5 inch wide, 25mm offset) and 255/35 tires. Suspension is all stock and the inner fender liner has been removed from the front.

However, under hard cornering the tires rub hard against something. It almost feels like the brakes are seizing up. I know other people running the same size wheels and tires, so I would have guessed that it is a suspension related issue, but I'm no suspension expert.

Would bad springs possibly cause something like this? I see Gs all the time with 20s that are slammed with zero rubbing, but my stock height G is having major issues.

I would really like to lower the car, but I don't want to put any money towards that until I have the rubbing issue resolved.

Thanks for your input.

Check the inner edges of the front tires. I have a feeling you are catching the inner tire on suspension pieces or something else in that area. Are the front tires 255/35?

I took a look at the inside edge, doesn't look like there's any evidence of contact. Then again, I tend to corner slowly so that it doesn't rub often..so I can't rule it out even if I don't see damage on the tire. Yes, tires are 255/35 all around.

Just turn the wheel all the way right or left and check to see if the tire is clearing the inside of the wheel well etc. Sounds like its definitely rubbing on something but should be easy to spot.

Im dropped on S techs w/225's in the front and I can say I "barely" clear the inner fender lining. Im also running front spacers so are situations are different but your on a much wider tire. Im only running 255's in the rear. PS: Can we get some pics of the whip w/those tires! Id love to see what 255's look like in a box setup on 20's!

Keep us posted!

Edit: If there is already a pic posted ignore my comment, im at work and photos dont show here. lol!

If it's only happening in corners that your taking really fast it could be your VDC slowing the car down. Id say it kinda sounds like tire rubbing and a feeling of a brake seizing.

I can feel the tire hitting something and rubbing very aggressively while turning, but I'll turn vdc off today and see if it persists. Makes an awful noise as well when the rubber makes contact. By no means am I cornering like a race car driver, these are just mildly quick turns. I've been taking most turns slightly slower than average to avoid the rubbing.

I would say VDC too, almost sounds like a harsh rubbing. its slowing the car down for you. Tire sizes aren't the matching front and rear . from the pictures im guessing a 35 series front and rear. try going a 30 profile rear.
