2005 G35 Coupe Rust!

Hey guys,

Yesterday I looked under my car and I found a lot of rust. I want to get this cross member replaced but I do not know the name of the part. Can someone help me out?

Also, if someone else has ever changed this or has the same problem, please let me know.

I'm attaching pictures that I found on the internet of the part that is rotted out.

That's the rear cross member brace , how bad is it?? If it's surface rust you'll be fine..

^This. Or if you're insanely OCD you can scrape, wheel and sand the surface rust away and repaint it to look nice.

The reality is that those pieces are much thicker gauge than any of the metal it's attached to. If the rust on that crossmember was really serious the rust on the body monoque that it's bolted to would be the thing you'd really have to worry about.

I will have to take it to a shop to lift it up and take a closer look. But I was able to pull off pieces of rotted metal, so I think its more then just surface.

Has anyone here ever had to change this part due to rust???

I picked up a 2005 about a month ago that had some clutch problems. While removing the exhaust to drop the transmission, I was about to remove this piece, but I ended up being able to tear it apart with my hands... It was totally rotted through... I'm very interested to find out what the part is for this and how much it would cost to replace, becuase mine is absolutely shot.
Edit: It seems the part number is 74870-AM800.

I changed mine out because it was smashed up pretty good. It was easy to replace.
