Advice: Local dealer doesn't have my car, but dealer 300 miles away does

So I'm looking for a DG coupe with prem/navi. No one in my neck of the woods has it, but a dealer about 300 miles away does according to the inventory at infiniti.com.

My question is, can I ask the local folks to get the car shipped from that dealer? In other words, can I buy it from my local dealer or do these dealers not usually engage in this "swapping"?

Ask your dealer if they can do dealer trade. Which those two dealer trade their cars with eachother. I had mine done like that. Mine was originated from NY but they trade to my dealer in IR.

Mine came from a dealer 300 miles away. It's a perfectly legitimate request, just ask them. They'd rather have the sale any day than have you drive 300 miles to buy it from someone else...

When I bought my other car, I had the dealer do a trade with a dealer in Detroit, (which is like 2,000 miles away from here).

Depending on what kind of trade they do with the dealer, that may "eat into" whatever negotiation room you have. In my case, the dealer had to trade away a more expensive car to get the car I wanted, so the dealer said that he "has to make money" on this deal. At the time, I ended up paying probably about $600 more than what people were averaging.

I just bought my dg premium/navi/18" wheel package and I was in the same situation as you. The dealer who had it according to infiniti.com was about 2 hours away. I called my local dealer and they could not find it in their vehicle locator. I told them that it was on infiniti's website and my local dealer told me that the website vehicle locator was outdated.

Well, I called the dealer that was 2 hours away and they did have it. They told me that it was in high demand and that they were hiding it from other dealers. They would not trade it to my local dealer.

I had to end up driving the 2 hours to buy it. I bought it for 36,440.00

Yeah, if they do a trade, you might as well look at paying MSRP or higher.

Boooz, how much did you end up paying? How much room to negotiate?

So I did end up asking if a trade was possible, but the dealer told me they can only trade with other dealers in their "region" ... the surrounding few states, in other words. Then he said he'd ask the manager and get back to me later.

Is this just a bunch of b.s. or is it true?

Sounds like bs to me. If they want the sale they can make it happen. If not just drive over, its not a long drive
