HID Bulb Compatibility

Hey everyone, I have a 2004 g35 and one of the HIDs is burning out it seems- the right side is turning red/yellow ish. They are OEM bulbs and ballasts I believe- never been swapped to my knowledge (Car has 62k). My question is, can I use aftermarket bulbs with my stock Matsushita ballasts? I've heard from a lighting guy you can only use Osram or Phillips bulbs (160$+ ) with our factory ballasts or else the lights will be "finicky" (whatever that means)- Whats your suggestion and experience with using new bulbs with our factory ballasts? Thanks!

Aftermarket bulbs are fine if you get good quality ones. Go to ddmtuning.com for great bulbs at a ridiculously low price. IIRC they are around $20 for the pair.

Thanks for the quick reply. From your experience how long do those DDMTuning ones last?

I know of one member that has had his for more that 4 years and they still work fine. That's where I will buy replacements when they are needed.

I have DDM tuning bulbs
I use the pair for my e46m3 for around 3 years.
Switched them to the G35 when I sold the M3. And I have been using that same pair for more than a year now without problem.
15 bucks spent...

Thank You Diode Dynamics! Your bulbs look great! What size LED would I need from you for the strip side marker light on my headlights along the outer edge? Is it a 194?

Our LED strips can be cut every 3 SMD's to fit, but a bright 194 bulb will provide a better look IMO, with less work involved
