new car need help!!!!
i bought an 04 g35 coupe recently. i am extremely happy with it but i am slightly confused. the guy selling it said it had 298 hp and it has a sport package, either way im happy with it not being sport but i have no way of telling if it is or isnt. On wikipedia it says some of the g35 coupes are 280 hp and some are 298... which one is mine... how can i tell...
thanks guys for helping me out

These numbers, although official, don't tell the whole story. Here's what happened:
In 03/04 the DE was rated at 282hp and 270ft lbs of tq.
In 05 the revup received 298hp and 260ft lbs of tq. HOWEVER, the way HP was rated actually changed in 05 and many argue that there was no change in power at all. That makes sense because losing tq while gaining HP doesn't usually happen unless there's a flaw in design.
Either way, the 0-60 and 1/4mi times never changed for the coupe throughout its production, so it really is irrelevant.
But if you want to shine on the 05-07 guys, just tell them that the 04 actually is rated at more torque and torque is the actual power that you feel, not HP.

tl,dr:
05-06-07 6mt have 298 horses
But regardless, the performance numbers never changed.

As everyone has said, since actual performance and track times never changed it doesn't matter what the horsepower on the brochure/manual/advertisement says. A dyno is just a tuning tool anyway, not a performance measurement. The real test is when you take it to the track and the time it runs.
But, Nissan didn't have a glossy brochure that stated 298hp in 2004, it said 280 back then.

If i remember correctly rev up changed the rev limit of the engine higher.
TQ > HP at early RPM to get car moving where as HP keeps the car at high speed.
Around 6500 RPM HP passes TQ before that they are reletive
that might account for the increase in HP.
I may also be completely wrong

Your 04 coupe has 280hp. 05-06 Manuals had 298hp.
