Unhappy 2005 G35 with OC - Fix or Sell?

I bought a used 2005 G35 coupe a couple years back. I noticed it was consuming oil about a year ago and took it to the dealership, who claimed there was "nothing wrong, but even if there was I was out of warrenty anyways so it'd be on me."

I then found a great deal of information on this site and others claiming an array of confusing and scary information.

I ran a consumption test and found I lose about 1 quart per 800-1000 miles. Should I:

1) Sell the car?
2) Install a vented catch can setup?
3) Switch oils?
4) Not worry and just top up every so often?

Any advice is greatly appreciated,

Thanks.

An oil catch can would be a step in the right direction, what oil viscosity are you currently using? Do you have any external oil leaks that might be contributing to your oil consumption?

I am currently using 5w30 full synthetic. There are no visible leaks on the car and it doesn't visibly burn oil.

Personally I would not panic and I definitely would not sell yet. You already know what your consumption is, so keep an eye on it. I would install the catch can and go to a higher viscosity. The Service Manual Section MA-Maintenance will provide you with the recommended viscosity. For example 5W-30 is recommended for my 2003, but I can run 10W-30 and 10W-40 if the ambient temperature is above 0 degrees Fahrenheit.

You didn't say how many miles you have on the engine. As engines wear they are naturally going to use oil. I'd just keep a close eye on the oil level...keep it topped off. I wouldn't sell the car.

most folks do not know but synthetic does NOT emit blue smoke...I would change to 15w40 regular and try to see if you can see this...and 1000 mi per quart is not bad at all. be careful you do not over fill
