Question regarding torque and my transmission!
Hey guys,
I took my car into a mechanic and found out my clutch is slipping. I was looking online, and I stumbled across a site that showed the max torque on OEM clutch at 270.
I know the g35 2005 basemodel coupe 6MT hands out 260lb tq at 4800 RPMS.
I read online that high revving is the best way to get the fastest 0-60 times. During my adventures on the road, I have been testing out my 0-60. Over the last few months, my off-the-line driving has been slowed way down!
I also smell burnt fluids, have a studder or a pulsating feeling on the clutch pedal itself, and you can actually hear the transmission grind occasionally.
When the mechanic said it was the clutch, I started looking into clutches. I don't want the OEM because I actually don't think the car was made to 0-60 all day every day
Who would have thought (new at this performance vehicle thing).
Would anyone here say the OEM clutch is fine and the torque load is fine OR should I invest in a JWT flywheel/clutch combo for their 455 tq max just to speed around stop lights when the "need" arises?
I am going to have this car for awhile, so I maintain if often, and change what is needed. I am not looking to add a turbo or any spacers. I am keeping everything stock (except I have replaced the intake for sound with the K+N and jwt popcharger).
I just want to know I can accelerate fast without breaking my clutch. I don't speed or 0-60 on the daily, I was just testing things when I first got it (pretty hardcore testing), and I think that's what threw the clutch out.
I wanna know the option is there and that I can redline without fear of losing a 700 dollar OEM transmission.
THANKS!

A stock spec clutch is more than fine for your car unless you've done a ton of crazy power mods to it.... especially since you said you're not driving the car real hard on a regular basis or racing it.
