Missing first gear

Hey, my friend is going to buy a 05 g35 coupe. Looks nice inside and out. But it's missing first gear. Is this a really bad thing? Or an easy fix? And what should he be worried about?

Okay cool, because you start driving the car. It skips over first gear and jumps right into second. Literally

Up to you how much work you would like to do. Might need a new transmission.

Stick or auto?

I wouldn't buy a car with that problem. It probably needs a new tranny... and that might be because the car was beat.
