P0011 CEL - cheap cam shaft position sensor?

Here is some background info:

03 G35 Coupe 6mt. I Seafoamed my car, changed my oil afterwards. About 400 kilometers later I pulled a P0340 CEL (Camshaft Position Sensor Bank 1). I ended up replacing this sensor with a replacement Camshaft position sensor part from NAPA Auto Parts (Canada's Autozone) and the code disappeared.

A day later, my SES light came on and I pulled the P0011 Code (Intake Valve Timing Advanced Bank 1). I have done endless research on this code and my head is spinning. I have read that it could be a faulty camshaft, timing chain, timing chain tensioner, short in my camshaft sensor wiring, among many other things. It's important to note that there isn't much information on this code for VQ35DEs. It seemed to occur more often with 07+ G35 Sedans with the VQ35HR engine.

Could it be that the camshaft sensor I used was cheap knock off part and that I should go for an OEM Nissan/Infiniti part? Would this not really make a difference because I am not throwing a P0340 after having replaced it? HELP!!!

A common cause for the P0011 is low oil level, and yes, use OEM sensors. A lot of members have had issues with aftermarket sensors.

I will check my oil level, but I changed it about 500kms ago. So unless I have a leak somewhere or I am burning oil like a **** all of a sudden, it might just be the sensor. I will replace the sensor tomorrow and see if that fixes the problem.

Any other potential problems this could be? All of my problems seem to be coming from bank 1.

Not sure but head over to the Engine/Drivetrain section and do some searching there if you haven't. I've read a lot of threads on the issue. These are just a few:

UPDATE: It has been a few days (40kms) since I have installed a Nissan Camshaft sensor that I bought from the Dealership for $123 CAD. So far, the P0011 Code has not resurfaced, so my issue may have been the generic sensor.

Should the code come back with the OEM sensor installed, I will check back in.

Don't go aftermarket with sensors again, especially when they involve the engine's timing. Not g35 related, but I've seen one-too-many cars going wrong after an aftermarket anything was installed by the owner, and the owner coming in frustrated because they thinking they did the work wrong... damn honda owners trying to go the cheap route for EVERYTHING when they could cry once and do it only once.

The title here is just wrong to begin with! Cheap sensors don't belong in our cars, they'll only leave you stranded on a cold rainy night. Stay with OE sensors, you'll thank us!
