Angry It rained last night, WTF did it do to my paint!??

Acid Rain? I don't get it, the hood has never looked like this. It's been months since its rained here in AZ, then this. The whole car is exposed and only the hood was affected. If i run my finger over the paint it still feels smooth. Just taking a dry cloth and rubbing does nothing. IMO it doesn't look like normal water spots. Suggestions!?

Looks like acid raid. Try using a claybar on it to see if it comes off. If not, you'll have to use some polish.

compound it out, then polish and wax with a DA or rotary polisher..........or maybe get crazy insane and use a wet cloth since the dry one didn't work

Try a detail spray, if not clay or compound.

Don't use a magic eraser like I did to remove a water stain on my bumper. ( it got the stain out but left a million surface scratches that I had to remove with compound)

Looks like the rain gods or someone.. have won this time. F*@&rs...

Appreciate the replies. I used quick detail spray, clay bar, compound, polish, wet cloth...nothing. Well that's a lie, the spots are shiny now.

Apparently there are some factories nearby but I have a hard time believing the acid could be that strong where it eats through my paint.

Could be vandalism... I live near a highschool with kids walking by daily. But the fact that is hasn't rained in months, then this. I just don't know. Bought a car cover just in case. Figures that my POS maxima w/ no engine is just sitting in the 2nd bay of the garage. Lesson learned, I guess.

Will be taking it a body shop tomorrow to see what they say.

Never anything wrong with a little clay and/or polish.

If buffing and clay bars didn't work it might be and looks like the clear coat might have separated from the base. Has the hood been repainted that you know of?

Not to my knowledge. But that might help explain why it was the only affected area. Less resistent to whatever chemical hit, if it really was just acidic rain...

It might have been. It's hard to tell exactly from pics but you usually see that on dark cars and on "newly" (not factory) painted areas that are poorly done. Was the car sitting in the sun while it still had water on it? It may have turned the droplets in to little magnifying glasses and blistered the paint a little.

Or it could be acidic rain we don't have that here so I'm not sure exactly what that does to paint. Could be a newer paint+acid rain=that kinda problem.

Very cloudy today, it rained from probably 6am to 1pm. Once it stopped I drove it. The car and roads were still soaked. So I'd say the sun didn't have a chance to bake anything that was sitting on the hood.

But...

I didn't check the hood before I driving ( I drove probably 2 miles) so its possible the engine heat caused it to bake in.

Possibly. It is concentrated on the area that sees the most heat from the engine.
