I have a Clarion NX501 HU.
it has the usb port to connect a jump drive to read music, photos, videos yada yada.
I know a lot of you have used an external HDD so your stereo can read it and have a ton of music on hand. Ive looked for it but cant find what i need.
Can i just hookup a hdd or ssdd and have it read?
will the stereo have enough power to operate and read the drive?
I saw that some formatted the entire drive to FAT32 or similar, do i need to do that?

 

guess i should say what my intention is.
I want to copy a bunch of movies to it so my passengers can watch while i take this 10 hour trip in mexico

Yep yep. All it needs is a few Amps and the power rating is wrote on the side of the SSD/HDD. I would just use a hdd because we all know SSD tech is still too overpriced.

 

not sure what the rating is on the HU but when i charge my phone through it, it seems like its a .5 amp charge.. its so extremely slow..
ill find my hdd and see what i can do with it. thanks

 

Low energy HDD might be your option. Look into green drives.
