Intelligent key sensor/antenna in trunk

We have a 2008 G35 sedan. The Intelligent key (IK) warning system stopped working, allowing my wife to lock the Intelligent inside the trunk.

Warning system works if the IK is inside the passenger compartment, will not allow the doors to lock.

If the IK is in the trunk though, it will now close and lock. It was working before.

It seems like the antenna/sensor in the trunk is bad, or the control module that it ties into may be bad. Is this something I can isolate myself and repair, or will it be a trip to the dealer and big $$$$.

The external antenna is working as I can unlock the trunk by pressing the button with the IK in my pocket.

Anyone have experience with this? How much $$$$

Do your rear backup lights work? Maybe something is up with the harness back there? I never came to light on this issue with my sedan.

Have you tried simply putting a fresh battery in the fob to see if it makes any difference?

New battery in both FOBs...and the system does work if I leave the FOB inside the passenger compartment. The external antenna does work as it will allow me to open the trunk by pressing the release button so I'm confident that other systems in the rear of the vehicle are working OK

Seems to be the inside the trunk antenna/sensor?

I noticed a week or so ago that my trunk light stopped working so I tried swapping the bulb but it didn't work. I new that meant most likely a blown fuse but figured I'd deal with it later. Then a few days ago I put my gym bag in the trunk like always and shut it. I then realized that I couldn't get in the car and pat my pockets to realize that my keys were not there b/c they were in the f'n trunk. It must be tied to the trunk light and my guess is a fuse. Now just need to find it.

I recently had the same issue with my 2007 g35x. Started with the trunk light not working, despite changing the bulb. A few years later the trunk release button stopped working. Eventually the trunk couldn't be opened from the fob or interior at all (had to go through the passthru).
Turned out to the be the infamous harness wiring breaking apart where the trunk lid connects to the car. About 4 wires gave way.. soldered it back up, now working well again!

Your mom's boyfriend
I had a similar issue. Reverse lights wouldn't work. Resoldering the broken wires under the flexible rubber connector in the trunk fixed it.
