Body Side Moldings, Splash Guards

This is my first post on the forum. I have been reading at least once a day since I placed my order. My coupe is ariving in late May, and I am currently going to have the side molding and splash guards added. However, I am not sure how this will look. I am not too concerned about the splash guards, because they are suttle and look pretty good, but I am curious as to how the side moldings will look. Does anyone have any picture (beyond the Infiniti website)? Will it hurt the look of the car? For those who don't have them: How do you keep your door from getting dings and dents in parking lots? Has this been a problem? Thanks in advance for any feedback. Can't wait till the beast arives!

Re: Body Side Moldings, Splash Guards

Just received my Black Beauty Saturday and am TOTALLY IMPRESSED! This car is definitely worth the wait (3 months) and is an aesthetic knockout.

My car was ordered w/ the BSM and I believe that it accentuates the long wheelbase. The coupe's doors are very tall and the molding makes it appear longer and more streamlined. The splashguards look terrific also.

I don't think that the moldings will prevent most dings, but my car is a weekend only - yes, garage queen, and I will just be very careful about parking her.

Welcome - I hope your wait is a short one!

I don't have the BSM on my laser red coupe and I think it looks much better than a car with BSM.

I avoid dings by ONLY parking on an end and i park as far away from the other parking spot as possible. I've never had my car within doors distance of another.

Re: Body Side Moldings, Splash Guards

I think BSMs really detract from the otherwise clean lines of the G because they look like they are tacked on with double faced tape, which is true. Some cars tastefully integrate the moldings in the overall design, and for these cars, the moldings are not optional. I just did a quick survey today while walking around downtown Chicago, and even though most cars have BSMs, they had as many digs as the ones without moldings. So the moldings have questionable value, and they look like they're tacked on. I think I will pass.

I haven't made up my mind on the splash guards. Unlike the body side moldings, they're nicely integrated into the design, and very functional. The front wheel splash guards seems a bit too prominent when viewed from the side, but it may just take some getting use to.

You can see how BSM look on a black coupe in Rides under Obsidian. I think it looks pretty good in black. It doesn't stand out as much like it would in other colors.

Re: Body Side Moldings, Splash Guards

I totally agree with Burke. I saw a Black G in the showroom with BSMs and it looked great. I also saw BS and DP G's and they looked horrible.

I actually purchased a set of BSMs, and tacked them up with painter's masking tape, and took some before and after pictures. Decided right then and there to take them back.

As for the splash guards, I was totally disappointed. They look sooo tacked on. Who the hell needs a 1 foot long splash guard?? Why cant they just have the vertical piece and get rid of the body-extension?

Personally, I feel the cleaner the lines of the car, the better it looks. For proof of this theory, look at the Aztek. (Well, don't look directly at it or you'll turn to stone.)

Is the Aztek the most horiffic piece of machinery to come out of Detroit EVER, or what? They are hideous!

As for the G, I agree with masetodd - I'm very happy to have gotten my Coupe without splash guards and BSM's. I don't think either looks good at all, especially on Brilliant Silver.

As ot how to protect the car, that's simple, as others have pointed out:
Don't park anywhere near another car, or anywhere near where another car may park in the time you're away from the vehicle. Take up two spaces if you have to, anything. Who cares? Just keep your baby safe!

I have supple, bare flanks, just unsullied, and park my baby way, way out in the lot...There are very strange people out there who park there trashy huge wrecks out there jreal close to you just to bug you...the end spaces and way out spaces are a nuisance and not always effective...
