I want to tow my G35 (auto transmission) with a tow dolly which will lift the front wheels but keep the rear wheel in contact with the road. The recommendation is to remove the driveshaft to prevent tranny damage. I've seen a few posts about aluminum driveshaft installs so I know some here have experience with this.

Can anyone please answer any of the following questions:

1. Is the drive shaft removal straight forward or are there major headaches like clearance issues or the need to remove a bunch of other parts first?

2. Once the shaft is unbolted from the differential will it pull right out of the transmission or do you have to do some work at both ends to get it out?

3. Once the drive shaft is out is there a need to cap the transmission to prevent ATF loss out of the hole the driveshaft fits into?

4. If the answer to 3 is yes, is there an OEM or aftermarket part available to cap the tranny or does one need to jury-rig something suitable?

Its fairly easy. 4 bolts at the diff and and 2 for a center mounted bracket, then the driveshaft will slide straight out of the tranny. I never had any leaks when I had the tranny removed. the exhaust and probably the rear sway bar will need to be removed. I think there's a frame support in the back that will need to be removed as well.
