Rear window rust.

Hello everyone I just recently purchased a 04 g35 coupe and everything is flawless but today I noticed on the rear window the is a gap up top where the roof is and it seems like there should be a molding there. I noticed in the gap there seems to be rusting it does not seem like a lot or severe but it is bothering me. Has anyone else had this issue. It seems to run along the car. I might try to use some naval jelly and then use some touch up paint.

This was such a close up picture, it took me a while to finally get oriented and compare it with my coupe. It looks like a factory seam, there is no seal across the top on my coupe.

There is not a whole lot of room to work there with the glass installed, I guess naval jelly is an OK idea, I am on the fence with that one because naval jelly won't seal the seam. I think that after the application and clean-up of the naval jelly, I would apply a very thin coat of RTV sealant, gray preferably . If you tape off the area right, you might not even need to do any touch up painting. In any case remember not to build up the area too much, because water still needs to run off, you don't want water to get trapped there and ruin what ever work you do.

Good luck

I tried the naval jelly and it seemed to work out good but for some reason it almost seems like it is not rust. I am going to hit the area with a clay bar and see if that picks up anything. It just seems like a weird area for something like that to develop.

I was going to say that it doesn't really look like rust. Are you sure it's nit just glue from the window? Maybe the original owner had the window replaced and they did a sloppy job containing the excess. Sometimes bugs lay thus sticky brown stuff on my car that looks just like that too but in a smaller volume.

^ Yea that is what I am thinking. I never saw a car rust in those areas before and I live in central PA where there is a lot of rusted out cars. Like I said I will try a cleaner first and then a clay bar. The car is in very good condition and it looks like it was garaged kept so I don't know how it would happen.
