2006 G35 Coupe - Driver side window wont go up.

appreciate everyone's help.

my driver side window wont go up, but every time i open/close the door it goes down a little automatically.

when I try to presa the button for the window to go up, all I hear is some type of clicking noise. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks

Take the door panel off, remove the motor, pull out the main shaft from the motor and clean everything up. there will be a huge buildup of carbon and debris in there most likely. Put a dab of grease on any moving parts that may touch before reassembly (don't get any on the magnets though) and reassemble. Make sure you test it first before putting the whole door back together. It could be the actuator that's messed up as well. There is also a window motor reset procedure that you can do to help realign the motor so it knows when it's fully up.

This has all been covered several hundred times in previous posts and is probably the single most common problem on these cars... do a search for more detail and DIY posts with pictures.

thanks so much! when you say actuator do you mean the lock actuator thay many have a problem with. how does a lock actuator affect the window?

I'm not really sure how that actuator piece works. I never had a problem with that yet personally (knock on wood). My issue was with the motor itself getting dirty and messing up.

I know a lot of people have problems with the auto up feature on the windows. I never use that for this reason. It's probably related to that.

I tried to clean my window motor instead of replacing it but am still having trouble. before i bolt the motor back up i test it and everything works. the motor will spin for ever. but when i bolt it up it doesnt roll. I think i messed up the relearn procedure. when I first installed it i let it auto roll down to the bottom before doing the relearn stuff.

so i pulled everything apart again. even manually rolled the window up an inch to relieve some pressure. the motor was still spinning freely. so i bolted it back in. the window rolled up, but i had to assist it. then i closed the door held the reset button and tried to roll the window, but it stuck. at least its up now not down.

do you think i need a new motor? do you think its computer problems and needs a better reset? i have a spare window switch somewhere. once i find it ill give it a try. but from past experience i know its not the switch alone.

If the motor is spinning but the window doesn't move - like how you had to assist it upwards - then part of the motor is damaged.
Normally the motor would still take the window down though, with the weight of the window itself, unless the window regulator has problems too.

There's some plastic gears inside the motor which can break. Because you said the motor spins good and it also lifted the window up with some assistance, it sounds like those plastic parts are damaged and slipping - this happened to both of my window motors.

Visit www.carparts.com and you can find each side for $40
