g35 vs fx35

Hello,I am going to purchase either a g35 coupe or fx35.I perfer the handling on g35,but i like the utility of fx35.I also like the ride quality better on g35.My question is,if i where to buy an fx35 with sports package, and swap out wheels to 18 inch(dealer will do for free),do you think it would make a difference on ride quality, and if it does make a difference, would it be an enough difference.I drove fx35 without, sport package, and i like ride quality but perfer the tightness and the non-floating feel, of the sport suspension.I think the 20 inch wheels, really reduce ride quality.I am coming from a bmw 330xi,which has a sport suspension, but 17 inch tires, and ride quality is fine, and it has that tight non floating feel.just like g35 coupe and fx35 with sport package.I am not interested in g35 sedan, don't like how it looks.I guess if ride quality on fx35 where better, with sport package and 18 inch tires, then i would get fx35,other wise i will get g35 coupe.

I need your advise,

thank you

Apples and oranges.

If you want to go fast and look really good doing it, get the G.

If you want to have a practical, good looking car that is a fast enough SUV for most, get the FX.

you can always upgrade things afterwards. so anything is possible if your have enough $$.

the thing is this trying to make someone something they are not is destined for failure. oops sorry what i mean is if your trying to make a SUV into a performance vehicle your better off starting with a performance vehicle. if you need an suv for other things then a sports car can never be changed into a larger vehicle, so its not gonna help.

I wish i could provide an answer that would help you further. Unfortunately it seems you still need to think about what you want in a vehicle. if you need straight line speed and the usability of a suv... grab an suv and toss a supercharger on it. if you want cornering your going to have a massive $$ hit to get close to the G.

ride quality thats the million dollar question... softer suspension or softer tires or combination of each... harder suspension or lower profile tires. shrug dude dunno, take some more time ask some different questions perhaps we can help

gl with your choice

Dude... I was in this same predicament when I bought my G Coupe.
Didn't really like the G sedan, only liked the coupe, but I wanted tepracticality of an SUV. The more and more I kept thinking about it though, the more and more I noticed that the FX is not practical at all. I mean, it's NOT a real SUV with off-road capabilities, the back seat is extremely small and uncomfortable, and the luggage space is not much bigger than that of the G coupe. All this while carrying only 5 passengers in an extremely small cabin.

The FX is a POSER SUV. (Flame suit on)
Which is OK, because alot of SUV's out there are posers, like the BMW X5 and so on. But if you want a sexy-poser street SUV, then the FX might fit the bill.
Additionally, I think the VQ sounds out of place on the FX35, but that's my opinion. I really like the way the FX looks though, and I'd own it over any other posers. Just not very practical though. That's why I own a G coupe and my 2nd car is a 4runner.

Why would you take the 20's off and put on 18's? That will look really stupid. And btw the FX rides better than the G.

For the FX

Get the 20's, sellem and get nice lookin 18's or else the dealer better give you a generous discount!

Also 20 inches = better gas mileage

Never go off road here. Needed something with a little more room/Utility than the G35. 20" low profile tires were never a consideration since I'm driving some really poor roads (I95, Cross Bronx, Lower Manhattan).

Love my FX. Added a Stillen strut tower brace and really, really love my FX.

Just something to consider. If harshness of ride is a factor you can always go with 18's and an STB even add some Eibch's later and have the best of both worlds. Of course if you plan on carving it up..... just go straight to the G.

I test drove FX's with and without the sport package when we bought one for my wife and with the sport package, I thought the car felt almost exactly like my G coupe in terms of ride and handling (this was just seat of the pants feeling, I know there's no way the SUV could feel exactly like a coupe).
It would be interesting to choose between a G and an FX. Personally I'd take the G hands down. But that's because I love coupes and the G is one of the best looking and performing examples available today. I definitely love our FX35 as well though. While it doesn't beat the competition in terms of utility, it gets the job done. Unless you haul building materials or buy groceries for 15 regularly, I don't think you really need anything bigger. And it kicks other SUV's butt in terms of looks and driving dynamics.

An inch will make the ride quality different and then you add the difference with the sport package vs. non sport. There will definately be a huge difference.

You should test drive the exact car with the package you want and decide for yourself.

I can speak abt the g35c and the ride is awesome. I test drove one with 18" and 19" (both with sport packages) and there was a big difference. 19s being more tighter and a little harsh. But I still got the 19s as these wheels looks awesome.
So, if you take my example and advice. It will be wise if you test drive the car with the exact specification you want and try driving the g35c and the fx back to back.
