Change 05 Coupe Headlight TO 06 Coupe Projector Headlight
Yes. Really anything higher than 5000k you will lose usable light.
They rock. This is from my fresh bulbs, and now they are worn in and have better output (measured).

*Thanks for all the input!!
So just a recap:
2005 G35 Coupe
--> 2006 Projector headlights are plug and play ---
ballast and the wiring remains the same (no need to change) *Basically just pop the 05 headlights out and put the 06 headlight in.
--> only need to change the bulb (Morimoto xb 5500k D2S)
is that correct?

Apologize for bringing this back -- but want to make sure I have everything before bringing this to the shop:
I brought a pair of 06 coupe projector headlights for my 05 coupe.
Besides buying a pair of Morimoto xb 5500k D2S bulbs --- what else do I have to buy?
Can I use the existing ballast from my 05 coupe? I heard from others that I need to get a new ballast as the 05 ballast is not good for the D2S bulbs. Is that correct?
anything else I'm missing?

As for the ballast, it should just bolt up to the bottom of the projector headlight housing (3 bolts). I'm not sure what igniter (cable from ballast to bulb) the factory 2005 HID used. There is a solenoid with red wiring that controls the brights that should be connected to the projector bowl. Do you have the housing caps?
Stock replacement Philips bulbs w/ E30 lenses, an upgrade you might do down the road if you so choose. See the color modding projectors thread. It would be worth your time.
TSX replacement lenses are still very clear and affordable, and easy to find. They are around 20-30 from the retrofit source brand new.

You'll need to get the bulbs for the best performance. The Morimoto bulbs 5500K will be quite bright and white, Make your choice knowing these ballasts are worn.

You Shouldn't need to buy one - it is included with a projector... Or should be. It's the piece where the red wiring runs to. See the box? Make sure you have that otherwise you have brights all the time.
It controls the cutoff shield. Idk why anyone would ever remove it.
