temperature guage

so my cars gauge in the cluster works but lets say when im driving on the freeway going 80 the gauge will drop all the way down like the car is turned off. when it does that if i give it a little bit of gas it goes back to where it always is in the middle does anyone have any idea what it could be its driving me crazy...


what ive replaced withen the last year.
thermostat, radiator, temperature sensor

That's gotta be a temp sensor or sending unit issue. Did you buy an OEM temp sensor or aftermarket? I would suggest it's faulty.

I agree with ScraggleRock that it is a problem with the temp sensor, I however would not replace the sensor without doing a detail inspection of the wiring at the connector going to the ECTS (Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor). The problem could be a faulty contact, pay close attention to the wiring connection at the plug terminal pins. If all is good, I would consider replacing the sensor. You can if you have time and tools to do a sensor test. The procedures are provided in the Service Manual Section EC (Engine Control System). For my 2003 the information is found on Pages EC-194 trough EC-196.
