G35 on 16s

Hey guys. I had been searching the forums for information on G35's running 16" rims and there were a lot of posts where people said "I don't know if it will work" or "Maybe" or "Just go with 17s". Well I live in Canada, winter is approaching and I had a set of wheels from a 1991 Skyline GTSt sitting around with winter tires mounted on them so to save on buying a new set of wheels & tires I tried these.... and they work fine! The car is a 2004 model with the plain (non-Brembo) brake package which is why I think they fit. This size of wheel probably won't work on an '05-'06 model or a Brembo model. The wheels are 16x6.5 fitted with 215/55R16 Continental ContiWinterContact tires.I added a 5mm spacer in the front and a 15mm spacer in the rear to help with fitment in the wheel wells. Ideally I would have liked to have the GTR wheels rather than the GTSt wheels (16x8 rather than 16x6.5) and the tires should really be a 215/60R16 to get the stock ride height and tire circumference but this is what I had available to me and it's fine for what I need it to do.

So if you're curious what a G coupe looks like on 16's, here you go:

Pics aren't the best and I've got a shadow from a tree on the car but it gives you an idea.

Can I just ask why? 16's are soooo small. How does it handle?

More tire is great to have during the winter + cost is extremely low. 19" Blizzaks are over a grand.

This reminds me of a 95 Mustang. Looks awful. I'd like to see the width. 6.5"? Can you take a pic of the back under the car? It's gotta look like 2 bicycle tires on there. I'm sure it's functional, and that's all good, but it if I ain't snowing on any given day, you gotta change back. Haha

Haha. I'm not doing it for the looks, it's entirely based on cost savings. I had a perfectly good set of winter tires so I'd rather use them than spend $1000+ on a new set. I'll probably get a proper set of 18" winter tires for next season but right now the budget is tight.

It's actually a lot of fun! The 16" wheel/tire combo is around 10lbs lighter per wheel than the factory 18" wheel/tire combo so I've shaved a good 40 lbs off of the car in rotating mass. It's not as bad as you would think.

The smaller diameter gives you a better final drive ratio too. It would be a good drag setup..but still. Haha

Sell those and use the $$$ to get yourself stock sized winters, not a good look

It's winter, who cares about looks at that point?

I used to do the same thing all the time with my lifted trucks, smaller rim/at tires during the winter and then bigger rim/tires for spring, summer, and fall.

Don't listen to others, its your car and you're saving $$. If it works, thats all that matters. Not like its a show car...

When the snow drops, looks won't matter. Traction does.

If you don't care what your coupe looks like and these work for you in your frozen winter months...run 'em! You might consider buying a Obama mask so no one knows it's you, they'd expect this from him!

That just looks horrible.... but if it's just for winter, who cares.

I bet your car probably scoots like hell now with the smaller OD wheels.

$crew Obama!!!!
