Rear differential Swap

I know there are several topics talking about this but they doesnt solve my question.
I want to swap my rear differential of a 04 G35 AT transmission, with one that have the shortest gear ratio and with LSD.
What's the recommended differential for this?
This is a perfect fit or needs to do some work on the car in order to fit perfectly??

I want the ones that come standard (oem) on 350z, not to complex, just to have the most equal power on both tires for better grip

you will have to swap the whole rear end. The case or rear pumpkin on the AT coupes are smaller then the MT coupes which has the oem VLSD.

First I've heard of this? The gear ratios are different, but the pumpkins are all physically interchangeable.

OP, I'm not sure what you're looking for that couldn't be found elsewhere, but the gear ratios of compatible swaps are:

V35/Z33 AT: 3.3 FD
V35/Z33 MT: 3.5 FD
V36 5AT: 3.69 FD
V36/Z34 7AT: 3.3 FD
V36/Z34 MT: 3.69 FD

The G37/370Z 6MT diffs would be the "shortest" stock swap available. Several vendors also sell ring & pinion sets in even shorter specs (3.9 & 4.09 being the most popular).

i mean you cant put a vlsd in a open diff rear end. But i could misunderstoud something.

yep, jus find a complete pumpkin from a manual g37/370z and that'll be the best you can get from OEM.

2007 - 08 G35S Auto has a 3.69 final drive VLSD, see this thread for swap info:

I believe manual G's & Z's have a 3.5 VLSD

I was thinking about this today, what would happen if you changed to a thicker fluid after the internals wore out?

The VLSD fluid is sealed inside the carrier separate from the gear oil that lubricates the ring and pinion. There are estimates all over the map on how long the fluid actually lasts, and weather or not it can be changed seems to be debatable too. Mine seems to work fine with over 60K miles.

I got stuck in the snow a few weeks ago. Pretty sure mine is worn after 197k miles. At one point only one wheel was spinning. Unless VLSD just doesn't work very well in extreme situations like that. After some digging out, both wheels were spinning, so I know it's not completely toast.
