Yeah I agree...taking a car like that to college is asking for trouble. You'll get keys, dings, fingerprints from curious people, etc.

Re: G35 and college?

Im in San Antonio at University of Incarnate Word, I venture to austin a few times i have plenty of friends that attend UT. First off if you are going to live in a dorm dont even bother taking a car. No parking and the zero need for a student in austin thanks to great public transportation. O and also the ridicoulously high parking prices in Austin. If you going to live in an apartment in Austin then you have nothing to worry about just make sure the complex you are living in has decent security. Also another word of advice although all those complex's on riverside dr. are priced perfectly for college students, you will lack in the area of safety especially for your car.

AND WATCH OUT FOR ALL THOSE HIPPIES!!!!!!!
GOSH, I HATE HIPPIES!

Re: G35 and college?

thanks marcel that really helped. For the summer I will be attending UT for 5 weeks in a architecture program after that me and some friends plan on getting a nice apartment or maybe even get some other friends together and get a house. That would make it extra safe for our cars (M3, 350Z, and g35). The only thing I have to worry about is the summer. I doubt or at least hope not that many people will attempt to vandalize my car. Also I will be living in the honors dorm for the summer so can't expect nerds to vandalize... at least I hope they wouldn't. Maybe just admire. lol. What do you think?

u'll be fine, so long as there is something more expensive in the lot, theres nothing to worry about. its AFTER u graduate when u have to worry about vandalism.

Re: G35 and college?

nice to finally meet a fellow longhorn on here - I'm going to UT right now and there isn't anywhere else on earth I would rather be...there's not many G coupes around austin, but there is a **** load of sedans (two in my apt. complex) - don't worry about anything happening to your car; if you walk around campus and the nicer apts. around austin, all you see are M3's and Benz's all over the place - remember, THAT'S WHAT INSURANCE IS FOR!!! I graduate in Dec. and plan on giving myself the ultimate graduation present (you guessed it - a G COUPE!) Seriously, you will love austin regardless of where you are from now, and good luck with the G - See ya' on 6th street!

Re: G35 and college?

oh yeah, and I live on Riverside (Jefferson Commons @ the Ballpark) - they are really nice, but security is definately lacking (basically, it's the ghetto) - I would recommend the new Jefferson Commons on Town Lake (the new ones being built right next to mine) because they provide optional garages... right now I have a 2000 Monte Carlo SS, so the covered parking does enough for me...but as for dorm living, I frown upon it - overpriced, underfurnished, no parking, no privacy, no security, etc. - If you have the money though, the Gables in Far West are where it's at (you have never seen so many SUV's w/ 24" rims in your whole life!) - actually that's where most of the football players stay (ie Chris Simms) - if you ever need any help with anything about Austin, just PM me...

No, not a Longhorn! I'm a pseudo-Aggie myself, having gone to one of the Texas A&M satellite campuses (Corpus Christi).

I wouldn't recommend a nice new car. You need a nice reliable car. Make sure you factor everything into your budget before deciding.. insurance, gas, expected maintanence costs, etc. If you can still afford it, and you're not worried too much about it getting keyed or something, then go for it.

Re: G35 and college?

I don't go to UT but I do live in Austin (work at Dell) - I park my car downtown a lot and generally it's not too bad because there are so many other nice cars down there especially at night. But if you're parking outside a dorm room or a class building or something during school hours, you'd be asking for trouble. I guess stick to commuter lots and you should be fine. Have fun...UT has tons of fine women.

Re: G35 and college?

Personally, I'd take the car. I couldn't see buying a $30k+ car and leaving it to just sit at home for four years. Otherwise, why even buy the car now? Might as well have waited to buy a new one after graduation.

If you're worried about peace of mind, well, that's what insurance is for.

Take your car with you, dude. You only live once!

Re: G35 and college?

I suppose that's true. All cars are going to get dinged or scratched eventually. The dealer scratched my front bumper. I have a couple of rock chips. Someone rear-ended me (though that's been repaired). I'm over the first-scratch panic phase. If I could have afforded something like a 3000GT during college, I probably would have had it.
