Could this be the source of my rattle on acceleration?

I bought a G35 about 3 weeks ago and the exhaust has a terrible sound to it. It sounds like a Civic with a fart can on it under hard acceleration. It was throwing codes for the catalytic converters being bad and I thought that might be the source of the problem, but I had them replaced with Kinetix HFCs and the sound only got louder.

It seems as if the previous owner had the resonator cut off the exhaust system and replaced it with a crappy straight pipe job and filled air pockets in with some kind of red putty as seen in the picture.

Could this be the problem? It seems like this could be the reason it sounds weird. Think about putting a card in a bike spoke when you were a kid to make it sound louder, that's kinda what mine sounds like under hard acceleration.

Could it really be this bad? I've known of the click but didn't think that could be the source of a noise this loud

Wow. that's a terrible exhaust job there. Please find a shop and have that redone correctly. I know only ants will ever see it...but that's just fugly.

I don't think it's the source of your noise though, especially if it's rhythmic. I'd look at something in the driveline as the source of the noise

I hear nothing in your exhaust, however I'd visit your local muffler shop and have them replace that fugly pipe, it's just wrong! Nissan frequently offers free inspections, have them go thru your coupe and see what they can find. So much back noise in your vid we could hardly hear if you coupe was running...Gary

Why would it be a joke? The title of the thread is about a rattle noise on acceleration and he likened it to putting a card in the spokes of a bike tire, which made me think of the clicking noise. (1) Clicking noise (2) from the rear of a G35 (3) on acceleration.... the 3 key symptoms of one of the most common issues on our car.... rear Axl click from CVs.

He just got his car so it would be more likely than not that he wasn't previously aware of how common this issue is with these vehicles.

A loud exhaust should not make any clicking noises on acceleration and if it was just the exhaust sound itself it would probably still make the sound while revving in neutral unless it's a loose hanger or poor fitting exhaust swinging and hitting the undercarriage.

I also had a rattle and it ended up being something in one of my factory cats. Dealership replaced it free.
